It would depend somewhat of course on what you are willing to spend. In terms of value for the money, for $1,599.00 (and often less when sales happen), you can get any of the Ibanez BTB Premium series 6 string basses. These basses offer excellent value for the price. They, the BTB1406E, BTB1606E and the new BTB1806E, are all incredible instruments in every way. I have a few myself and I love them. If you are willing to spend more to get an instrument that is not "production line", Roscoe, Elrick and Ken Smith also make amazing 6 string basses. My only truly high end 6 string bass is my Warrior Isabella and it's beautiful. Still, the Ibanez BTB premium basses do everything that my Warrior, or a Roscoe, Elrick etc. can at $1,599.00 which is about 25% of the price of the other "custom" brands I just named.

I suppose. I have never liked Ibanez basses. There is string spacing to consider as well. Many 6 string basses (and 5 for that matter) get tight for me - even with my smaller hands. You can find a used Roscoe for $1,900 if you watch - I've even seen them for less. I'd take a used Roscoe for $1,900 over a new Ibanez for $1,600. That's me.

I will add that when you find the right one, it can easily become your main bass. This is the 3rd time I've had this 6 string bass after letting it go a couple times. Maybe fate? I don't know. I bought it back this last time for nostalgia and to maybe try some solo/loop stuff. It also works great for church.

Since then a new "cover" band may be forming and I'll probably use this bass instead of a 4 string P or J or even my 5 string Roscoe as I think this bass plays and sounds the best. Fortunately, I don't play with people who care if I play a P or a coffee table.

"Best" is entirely subjective. IMO, BTB premium line basses are amazing and especially at their price point. Roland Guerin also uses them. Ibanez SR premium 6 strings sound great but I don't like the feel as much .... but other guys do. My Warrior Isabella 6 string is my primary bass these days though.
