Which all tube head??

The YBA300 is an awesome amp, I had one a cuppla yrs ago. I swapped it for my Fender Super Bassman mainly coz the Fender has the channel switching. The YBA300 is fantastic and the Fender is fantastic. Outta the 2 I'd favor the Fender. The 6x6550 power tubes just have a certain ooomph that is sublime, and it's a great sounding amp.

For now I am using an Avatar B115(Eminence 3015LF) and an Avatar B210 (Eminence Neo's). It sounds amazing with Ric/Flatounds. Of course I want the Traynor 4X12.:D
I have a 3015lf based cab and a 3012 lf cab but I guess If I do spring for the YBA300 the 412 will just have to come with it.
With the Traynor YBA300 are you able to play low volume and still get a bit of tubey sound or is it mostly when gigging volume to get the true flavor?

Honestly, It's pretty clean at lower volumes but you can crank the Gain knob and leave the Volume knob low and get some nice tubey goodness. My Old Marshall VBA400 was much more Growly but could sound farty at higher volumes. I think The Traynor is a better choice for me at least plus I got it Brand new w/Warranty at $1200 USD. I do cheat a bit to get some growl at very low volumes with my Favorite Pedal.(Next to a DarkGlass B3K). It's a Creation Audio Labs "Grizzly" It's my Always-On Pedal.

Very decent price! I don't think, for the workmanship & sound, that anything else comes close.

I have been considering another pedal - will have to check one of those out - I have a Hartke pedal now.

I played an old Peavey tube guitar amp one time, weighed about 1,000 lbs (felt like it) but it also had a fantastic sound. Perhaps the OP can find one of those if he doesn't mind the weight. Can't remember the model number, but several of those have seen bass duty over the years.

My GAS ended with my Reeves 225 and I've played and owned all kinds of amps since the 60's.

Regardless of which amp you choose, I would not buy ANY amp with tube sockets mounted directly to the board.
With heat and temperature extremes, bouncing down the road, tube changes,
I would insist on chassis mounted tube sockets regardless of what anyone else says.

People might argue with me defending their own purchase decisions, but that's my advice as a seasoned, road worn veteran.

If you guys had to choose would you go for a Fender Bassman 300pro (Sunn 300T) or a Mesa Prodigy?
There is a Fender Bassman 300pro for sale in my area.

As disssa points out above, weight is a factor, but I've always been a believer in transformers.

I can't comment on the Mesa, as I've never played one, but I have a Bassman 300 Pro running through a Fender 810 Pro cab, and I absolutely love it. The range of tones available is fantastic, and I love having the two channels and EQ foot switchable. I compared mine to the Traynor YBA-300 and an SVT-CL, and chose it because a) I got a great deal new ($800 CAD) and b) it was way more flexible the the Traynor or Ampeg. The Traynor is hard to beat on value, and the Ampeg is that classic tone heard on way too many records and stages to count. But the Traynor doesn't do dirty well, and I wanted to go in a different direction from the familiar Ampeg tone.

One thing about the Bassman I found is that the bottom can get a bit overbearing through some cabs, so I have the GEQ set to a frown, which works wonders in some scenarios...

Reeves 225 weighs 26.7 kg or 59 pounds. Really not bad for what you're getting.

Keep in mind the Reeves 225 is more powerful than a stock Hiwatt DR-201 and specifically
EQ'd for bass.

256 watts clean RMS into a 4 Ohm cabinet.
Around 230 into 8 Ohms.

Played my four-string P/J into the bass channel of the Reeves C225 this morning = Voice of God.

Thomann lists their top heads by sales rank
Invalid Link Removed

Click on the head to see the actual sales rank. #1 is way ahead of #2
Myself, no, I don't buy anything by popularity, I think. ;)
Ampegs aren't cheap in Europe, yet the V4B is #2 at Thomann with a price of 1549 €. Don't see where the Bugera is way ahead of the V4b, though, since there were no actual sales figures. But that's probably about $275 less than it is here. Not bad for Europe. I don't buy amps by popularity, either.

I've never owned an all-tube amp before.
I'm currently toying with the idea of buying a new Fender Super Bassman 300.
Does anyone know how the tubes are mounted in the Super Bassman 300?
