Which Amp head would you buy?

Does Marshall do any bass amps these days?

I went with the Mesa WD-800, as they are tried and true. You just can't go wrong.

Plus the things that Mesa has over most others:
Made in USA.
Best Warranty.
Best service.

Agree with this. It's a solid amp and sounds great, better than the others that I've tried to date. I use it with a variety of cabs, and it sounds great with all of them.

I've got the MB Vintage D2 and Mesa WD800 and definitely prefer the Mesa for $150 more no question. The Mesa has a MUCH bigger tube (full sized in the Mesa vs ~1/2 stick of chapstick sized in the Vintage) and MUCH more EQ options on the Mesa. Only reason I bought the Vintage D2 was because it was on a pretty hefty sale.

I tried that Goldline head and considered buying. I really like it but don’t trust it.

Between all the 500+ watt options like the genzler megellan, Mesa subway, quilter block, darkglass, orange options, and pretty much any other bass amp that can be had for under $1000, which would you go with and why? Sound? Weight? Aesthetic? Any that I’m missing that should be considered?

Many of us who have discovered the power and utility of a variable high-pass filter to protect loudspeakers, optimize EQ, make best use of available power, and mitigate venue acoustics deleterious to bass won't gig without one. I won't buy an amp that doesn't have a variable high-pass filter built in. These include Mesa, Acoustic Image, and some Bergantino models. There are doubtless others, too.

Good luck in your quest! :)

If it has a failure, that’s likely what you are going to be saying for quite awhile. I tried two of them and they were both returned faulty. I certainly am not investing in a product that lacks QC, and extended absence issues for service /repairs.
Sorry you've had less than satisfactory experience with the MarkBass amps, but, I've had no issues. In fact, I find it very sturdy, it's fallen in it's gator box rack mount a couple of time during transport with no consequences. I'm sure every manufacturer has someone with bad experiences. I won't bring my David eden WT400 to a gig without a backup because it had a bad circuit connection one time and failed on stage. Once bitten twice shy. Play what you like and trust and all it good
