Which bass? Advice needed

Thanks for posting again, guys! Well, to tell you the truth the choice of instruments is very limited here in Moscow, I'm not even talking about smaller cities where you wouldn't even be able to find a MIM. All we have in Moscow are cheap MIMs or super-expensive over 5000$ instruments. This is very annoying and weird because it's not an issue with food or clothing or electronics, you name it. But it's a pain in the ass to find an instrument or an effects pedal you want. That is why playing the instrument in question is... erm... out of the question. :D :rollno:
The store can order almost any bass from ebay or from store's partners. The price is obviously higher due to shipping/customs fee/store fee. That 1500$ bass would also cost me more than 2000$ anyway. Be it Japan or US, I would have to pay extra anyway.
I need something that would top my old Musicmaster which is good for playing live but unfortunately unacceptable for recording.
