Which bass guitar should i buy ?

i have been interested in bass guitars now and am looking forward to buy one
i went to 2 music instrument stores
one had a yamaha for 260 $
the other one a had a brand called Chinese "sunrise" for 200 $

i tried sunrise bass and it sounded good
couldnt try the yamaha because the store didnt have a bass amp

so now if i buy the yamaha i have to wait a very long time to buy the amp
but if i buy the sunrise i can buy the amp too
and am a beginner
so which one to go for ??

If your a beginner and your really not sure if its something that your going to stick with, not spending a lot of money at first might be a good idea,... but go with which one feels the best or is most comfortable to you..

Tough one...

My suggestion would be, and others chime in if you disagree, is to just buy the Yamaha and wait until you can buy an amp. You could even buy a $50 headphone amp (ex: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. This is a Canadian retailer, I don't know where you live, but I've seen them $50 here before taxes.) until you can afford a larger one.

Reason is, Yamaha is a decent name and they make some great basses (the more expensive ones anyway), but I'm pretty certain that the craftsmanship on the Yamaha will be better than the Sunshine. And to be honest, learning to play bass on a poorly built one may hinder your technique a bit, and unfortunately you likely won't know how to spot a poorly built bass for a year or two (unless you play guitar or some other fretted stringed instrument).

But what Ibanez said is very important too, go with the one that feels best or the most comfortable. If the Sunshine sounds better to you, or feels better, or whatever, you'll be more inclined to play often since you'll get excited every time you pick it up. Hope this helps,

Nothing wrong with Yamaha's some people are so quick to say they don't build instruments specifically they build ____________ and then instruments. However few realize Yamaha was a music company before they made their dirtbikes, ATV, skis, and the like.

I from exprience can recommend the Yamaha RBX170 they are terrific starter instruments. They hold tune like a charm, sound beautiful, and are cheaper than you'd expect for their quality. I say go for it.

BTW if you can't afford a amp right now there is no shame in waiting till you can. I've heard good things about headphone amps but, I'd never played one so I can't suggest any good ones.

When I started out, the choice was the bass & amp that I could afford. It was enough to hear and enough to start learning and playing with some friends that had acoustics.

Of course, you will out grow it quickly if you are working hard at it. I might have kept it for about 9 months then sold it for what I paid for it. I save some additional money during the 9 month and was able to upgrade a bit. And... just repeated this process until the gear was good stuff. The trick is knowing when to stop.

If there is a Guitar Center in your area, try them. You can get a Fender Affinity Jazz Bass package with a bass, an amp, cable and strap for $299. You might be able to get them to lower the price. They also have a Dean Edge package and an Ibanez package for $199. Here is a link so you can see what they have.

Take the Yamaha over a Chinese no-name bass-shaped object any day. You'll still be playing it years after the other disintegrated in your hands.
