Which Bass to Buy?

Hello. Ive been meaning to buy a new bass with my next check. Problem is, I dont know which one to get :rollno: Theres a lot that ive seen and liked but am having a hard time deciding. Any suggestions on any? Certain tones? Im looking for a wide fretted bass with around 24 frets. What are your opinions and why?

There's some basic questions I'd ask myself. What am I going to use this bass for? How many strings do I want? What style music do I want to play with this bass? There is so many different kinds of basses out there you really need to have a good idea on what you want this bass to do. A funk player would look at a certain bass while a metal player will look at another. But at the same time both players will want the same thing on each of their bass. I'm not saying you don't already know this. I'm just making sure you have a good idea on what you want so you don't end up returning something. Personally, a five string bolt on with single jazz pickups and a 3 band passive/active pre would do.

It takes me months to decide which bass to buy next and I'm in the market now. My top two are the Carvin SB5000 or the Brubaker Brute five string single cut.

I'm not sure why you're passing up a lot of basses with less than 24 frets, do you really plan to play that high? Do you have a price range? How many strings? When you say you want a wide fretted bass I presume you mean a wide neck. Is this to get better string spacing? Have you thought about a through neck?

I've played 2 basses :

Fender Precision : the neck is thick, great solid sound for rock and other types of music.

Fender Jazz : the neck is not as thick, easier to play, better if you want to play solos on.

When I was playing the Precision, there was stuff I could not play that I can now play on the Jazz bass.
Try some necks out and see how your fingers feel on them.

Yea Im assuming its a wide neck. I was looking into 24 frets because i wanted more note options and what not. I guess I just have to feel out the neck and hear the tones of the different basses when i go shopping lol. I have a feeling im gonna be in there for a while :bassist:

Don't buy your first bass online without having tried it and felt the weight, balance, how the controls are, if you like the finish etc. Find a local store and talk to them. I'd recommend that you try out some of the low end Squiers and Yamahas, which eventually would fit your budget, and give you a really decent instrument at value.

Well its defenitly not going to be my first bass. I have right now an ibanez gio -.- i hate that thing cuz of the neck size and i really cant get the tone i want out of it. That was my first bass and i picked it up for 60 bucks. Not bad for a first bass id say. I just need to move on up. Any reviews on the Ibanez ATK200 series? [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

If I were you I'd test out an ATK, if you like the soubd look for a used ATK300 or 305 on the classifieds here, I've seen a couple of them for less than 300 and they're awesome instruments, its the only bass I've owned that I regret selling.

Try many and get the one you like best.
That and nothing else matters.

If you want an active bass, an Ibanez soundgear or a schecter stiletto would be a good choice. these basses can provide smooth warm punchy sounds. also these basses has 24 frets and they have a good battery life. I definitely would recommend these basses.
