No. Any bass can be used for any type of music. There are no rules. Be creative, original, and think outside the box. Thanks!
And then the guitarist says the band "decided to go in a different direction" and shakes your hand, wishes you good luck with your next band. Or get kicked out of the recording session by the sound engineer.
Only in a perfect world does "The Bassist" get to do what he wants with creativity (and gear). I have not yet experienced that world. I have seen Bassists get fired from their own band. I know, it sucks.
