Which bass?

Both basses are cheap. The purpose for buying a 5 string to begin with is to have a bass that offers a good low B string. I would be willing to bet that both of these basses offer a "floppy" low B string. If it's going to be "floppy" you might as well just play a 4- string because only 4 of the strings are going to sound good. I have owned over 210 basses in my 30 years of playing, so I speak with experience.

Solution:
$200.00-$300 used Fender Mexican Jazz 5-string or used Ibanez Roadstar 5 string, or even a Peavey Fury or Patriot.
$300-$500 used Carvin
$500-$700 hopefully you can get a deal on a USA Fender 5 string, Yamaha BB5000A, Or TRB is a great one in this range.

Theres my 2 cents worth, spend it carefully.

If u want a good B string, 35" is the key, in two words : Peavey Grind NTB 5
that one is the best for so little money.
I don't know if u can find another 35" in that price.

About this two... Very different basses. The ibby is 16,5 mm string spacing and the Squier is 19 mm IIRC. The Squier is heavy with some neck dive and the ibby is a feather.
My first owned bass was a Peavey and i can tell u: The Best Bass for such a crazy price!!!

I owned a Bongo since, i own a '79 Precision and i played some basses... The only one i miss is the Peavey.

Ive made it quite the habit to buy my music gear used whenever I can.... you can get every bit of the use and value out of something thats been slightly used, and save up to $50 of the cost

If I were looking to buy a new 5-string in that price range I would go with an SX jazz before the Affinity. You might need to have someone tweak the setup a little, but as you can see on this site a large majority of people who have tried SXs have been surprised with the quality of bass you can get for a little over $100 and a little tweaking. I have never owned a SX 5-string but I love my SX 4-string jazz.

Regardless of what you decide, I would also recommend looking at used basses, if you are trying to get the most bang for your buck.
