I saw Cannibal Corpse 5 days ago; probably the best show I've seen yet. After they ended their set, Alex came walking by the barrier and thanking the fans and I actually shook his hand. They may be neck-and-neck with musicianship, but Alex is on top.
Steve Di Giorgio, hands down. He effectively invented playing fretless jazz-style bass in extreme metal. Alex Webster is a goddamned machine of death, but Steve Di Giorgio will always be my metal bass idol.
