which bassists have the best distorted tone?

That's one of those tones thats kinda crappy along or in your bedroom, but great in the right mix.
Could that also apply to Destroyer? Some awesome bass there too. Let's not say it too loudly though.
I don't think so...the bass sound on Destroyer sounds fairly clean. On Rock 'N' Roll Over, he manages to get this nice, fat fuzz sound that doesn't lose any of its bassiness. It's awesome...listen to tracks like "Calling Dr. Love" to get an idea.
+1 This is the song that made me really aware of how great a fuzz bass could sound (and, yes, I first heard it when it was a newie, not an oldie).
Still sounds awesome to me...
Troy Sanders of Mastodon on Crack the Skye, he gets one nasty tone during some of the heavier arrangements, and of course, Geddy Lee, his tone on the R30 tour was phenomenal.
There must be something wrong with me, because I don't think of most of these guys' tones as "distorted," just naturally driven or growly. Some of these tones sound somewhat like what I think of as my "clean" tone.
When someone says "distortion," I really more think of Peter Steele's strange tone or Cliff Burton's solo tone, maybe Geezer's bass solo tone on NIB as well.
