I use to play Ampeg and Mesa pretty exclusively but got pretty fed up with most bass amps. I regularly play bass through guitar amps now. My two main are a Vox Night Train and a Jet City JCA20H.

Why does it seem that some big league players have jumped ship from Ampeg to Hartke while some like Stanley have jumped on the Ampeg bandwagon?

Because Ampeg started making a ton of dud gear, people couldn't take their stuff on tour because your head would break, and so would the two backups you brought with you. I was "lucky" enough to get my first couple of Ampeg's during those years, sadly I won't be going back, I hear they are better now now though for what its worth. If you had done this poll before SLM I bet there would have been even more Ampeg. As far as why Stanley stayed, no clue, maybe he never had problems with his, or maybe he is just a man of integrity and loyalty.

I am also shocked by how little Fender use their is, and how there is no Markbass or Genz Benz on the list. I have never had a chance to use a GB but I hear great things.

As for myself, I run a Markbass head into an Epifani cab, sometimes a Markbass cab, but I prefer the Epifani ten times out of ten

I play whatever is provided as backline as long as it is on par / better than my GK800RB into peavey 4x10 (or just loud enough). I get enough tone shaping magic from my sansamp so as long as I get a transparent sound from the amp I'm happy.

But the dream is always an ampeg fridge or the orange tiny terror bass amp through a mesa 8x10...
