Which Cali 76 Model Do You Recommend?

I have owned a multitude of compressors. My first Cali was the V1. It came into my ownership from someone here on TB (along with a Strobostomp and a Noble on a Nano board!). Even after 25ish years of playing, I still don’t really “get” compressors. Don’t think I ever will. After selling my first Cali, getting another one, selling that one, getting the new V2… I now own a V1 again. I just like what it does for my sound.

Origin Effects has come out with a few different Cali 76 comps over the years. Seems like I see a different model on every board.

Which do you recommend and why?

(And if you say “original big box” that’s lovely but no way I’m dropping that kind of cash)

I have the cali76 compact bass. It ended my search for the perfect compressor for me. Saw some posts about it depends what you play through, tube amp or not. I can’t say anything about that because I don’t currently own a tube amp. My amp is a mesa subway d-800, but I more often play ampless these days using the cali76cb into a tech 21 Qstrip.

In the end I decided to trade my mint condition V2 for a blue V1.

Sold my v1 blue
I now use the new version.
I’m not mad at it but that v1 was special
