Which direction should jazz bass knobs face?

Quick question: Is there a standard direction that the knobs on a jazz bass should face? We will assume that the pots are both turned all the way up (full volume, no rollback of tone knob). Thanks in advance...

On a side note: Sarcastic answers will be judged on a completely arbitrary set of criteria known only to myself. Answers that have been determined to be insufficient or sub-par based on prior mentioned criteria will result in a public stoning of the answerer.

While sitting with the bass as if I were playing it, I install the knobs so that the position marker on the one closest to me is pointing in my direction when turned all the way down. I then set the other knobs so that the angle of the position marker is parallel to the marker on the first knob.

When the pots are at midpoint their indicators should be exactly perpendicular to the strings. Anything else voids the warranty.

Ia, do whatever works best for you. If you like the pointers pointing straight up at your usual setting then that's the best way to do it. Just don't weld them on in case the next owner has a different convention.

my bridge knob is rolled off to mellow it out here

Totally- they're really hard to turn when they're flipped in.

mine are at the 5 oclock position when looking at the bass from the front. ten oclock if im looking down. and out is probably the best advice you will get all day. if they arnt out, it doesnt matter where they point.
