Which do you prefer? Multi Effects processor or individual pedals?

I wonder why they havnt made a big floor unit, called the Bootzilla board ? Seems like Bootsy would make some money on that.
After all the years of space bassN, they could model all his different pedal combinations, and make about 100 presets, I bet.

Wouldnt that be neat ?

Same with singles. In fact, it's worse with singles. You get one base sound.

Sure, there may be a variety of different distortion sounds, but there's still going to be a limit. A lot of us (myself included) have been through a multitude of distortion stomp boxes to find the one that gives us EXACTLY the sound we want.

Even better reason to buy a good multi. You can sample a broad spectrum of FX without investing in too much hardware. Have you played with a GT6B's distortion models? On top of the classic boxes modeled, you can adjust not only drive, tone and level but individual EQ points and filter cuts as well to come up with your own sounds. In fact, you may find it overwhelmingly UNlimited. But I can see how you prefer single distortions. I kept my fave three. But only coz they feel familiar (which is in fact, their limitation).

It's the subtle differences between one and another that are the magic.

True...but I can spend LOTS of money trying EVERY different one until I find THE one base sound that I lights my fire (actually, two in my case).

More importantly, If I buy one multi that gives me all of my sounds, I won't have fx GAS any more. That would make me sad.

"Ridiculously complex" and I aren't a good match. I have a tendancy to get mad and break stuff when technology doesn't cooperate with my sloppy input. The term "stomp box" is much more fitting.

IIRC, sycip, you used to have one of the biggest "geeked" spreads ever put together by Mr. Petary. I can see how a complex high-quality multi is a good fit for you. My board of 4 pedals really isn't complex enough to warrant a change. Besides, having different color boxes to stomp on works a lot better for me than trying to remember which one of the black buttons does what.

The bottom line for all of it is...if it works for you, do it.

I personally like a combination of both. I use a multi-effects to really help sculpt the basic tone, and then individual effects for the stuff I'm more apt to change on the fly (octave, chorus, etc.) Really works best for me.

Bass Pod Live (preamp) and some pedals (fx).

It's funny.. I remember general consensus at one point was that individual pedals suck soul out of tone. Too many pedals kills the sound, etc... funny how everything is always full circle. It's mainly why I use a POD now. It may be artificial, but the tone (pre and processed) is very rich, very clean.
