Chromes always seem to do well. That particular tone sounds like the bright end of flats, so probably Chromes. They're great on a P, heard few examples on a J and sounds nice.

I can get that sound out of my jazz strung with Chromes. They have the right amount of sustain to them, it's not just a dull thud, but I just have to noodle with the tone knob a bit since it's a fresh set.
My original set I bought almost 4 years ago though are sitting on my Precision, but when I had them on my jazz it sounded dead like that. I'm also using Fender 60's pickups. Hope that helps!

Lakland sells, or used to, their own branded flats, which were identical to the GHS Precision flats. I would assume that is what they use on the flats clips on their site, where the OP's clip comes from.
Really? How "pretty quickly" are you talking here? I've had a set of Chromes on for a couple months now and they still snap like new. And I play almost daily. (No gigs or anything but I play a lot.)

Since that clip is on the Lakland site, and Lakland sells their own branded flatwound strings, I may go way out on a limb and guess that those might be Lakland flats (though think they are made my GHS)?
Chromes are great as well. I have them on a darker bass w/ChiSonics.

I also have a set on for several months. They still sound bright, but they did lose that brand new harmonic content in about two weeks.
But anyways, I say a set of chromes will get you that tone.
I guess strings react differently to each of us- though I don't kill rounds very quickly, and most flats take me a few weeks of play before they start to fill out and lose their clank. I do always wash my hands before playing, too.
TIs are the only flats I've played that sound to me at all like rounds, though the attack is different. Just my experience, yours obviously varies!
More growl than my La Bellas, so probably Chromes.
Of course it is also a great player on a great bass, carefully recorded.

I didn't realize they had their own brand of strings because I've never seen them for sale anywhere. Checked all the usual places.
FWIW, GHS flats are very growly- they have this low mids growl going on that is very apparent if you have the mids EQed prominently, makes for a nice thick tone in a mix. It's a great sound, really good strings.
Yeah I just watched a video comparing various GHS strings.
I was asking all this on behalf of my brother who wants to get into bass. He loves a really warm, old school tone. So I wanted to start him off right and find a set of strings that would suit his sonic preference. GHS precision flats look like just the ticket.
