A buddy brought over two DVDs this week, AWB and Kool and the Gang live. Alan's using a MIA JD5, singing and playing. Still one of my favorite bands. The new drummer is nice, well schooled in Funk drumming. Steve V, the sax man is pretty sharp, too.
Robert "Kool" Bell was one of my biggest influences growing up in the 70's. He doesn't do much on the DVD with his Zon but the band has probably never sounded better. Strangely enough, they don't do "Funky Stuff" on the DVD. That's weird.
Pleasure had one of the funkiest rhythym sections ever that most don't know about. Check out the interplay between Nathaniel Phillips and Bruce Carter on drums on "Glide"... that ^%#$ is silly.
Bootsy with James Brown... even as a teenager he was a monster groover.
