which head and cab combo???

So i really need an an amp, my really ****** laney linebacker 30w combo is dying. My budget is around £400 but its flexible. i really like geddys bass tone. i like the bass tone on cosmik debris. i want something reasonalby versatile, but thats not too ... i dunno... gimmicky, sort of too many different switches etc and it can sort of do lots of tones but not one really good.

my description is probably a bit too wishy washy

bear in mind the english price difference and availability of some basses in england please.

For £400 i dont see you getting much power out of your rig.

Do you intend to gig with it? Or are you a bedroom superstar?

well im looking to gig with it but im thinking maybe 300w is good for small medium gigs. and bigger gigs generally have a PA so i can go in to that.

Id reccomend going to your nearest music shop and trying everything bassey they have to offer! Though it may mean saving up a bit more for you ideal rig.

Assuming they dont only do one brand, it should be okay, my nearest music store just seels ashdown bass amps, and the odd roland!

For that kind of money you could pick up a good second hand combo....check out e-bay for Trace Elliot 300 watt combos.

$ave your pennies. Maybe rent a rig for gigs to use in the meantime. The biggest bang for buck for your goals is going to be an Ampeg B100R, or a GK1001 or 800RB paired with an Avatar cab.

avatar are us only the b100r is more like the price range. tbh i dont want to save up too much more really, i dont want to spend too much money on an amp at least not for a fair few more years. the reason i thought maybe head and cab is because i could upgrade them as seperate items as time goes on. tbh i could posibly stretch to the b200r but really thats sort where things get too expensive for me to warrant buying them.

As you are in England, might I suggest Carlsbro?

My first combo was a Carlsbro Cobra 90 W with 15" speaker. A friend of mine (Rush fan) commented that it sounded like the Rush bass sound.
