Ok so what is better for lower tunning on basses? 5 string or a 4 string? because I know that if you put smaller strings on instead of thicker one it makes the tenshion tighter.

Well... If you have a 5 string, your probably not going to tune down much, if at all.
The first string is a B... The lowest of the mainstream metal I listen to is about A.

Why do you think thinner strings would be higher tension? And perhaps you don't realize, but 4-string and 5-string basses can be made in a wide range of scale lengths.A_Winters_Rose said:

If the scale length of a vibrating string is 34" and you put a 125 string on there, be it on a 4 string bass or a 5 string bass, it will have the same tension, since the string is the same length and the same mass and diameter. So it doesn't really make much of a difference at all really? What you need to consider is whether you'd be more comfortable playing a 4 or a 5 string. If you play down low, will you even use a high G string? If not what's the point in the extra bulk of 5 strings? If you feel happier on a 4 are you prepared to carry out some small modifications to the 4 string so it can use heavier strings (ie possible nut and bridge filing)?
The longer the scale length the better. However, the tension increases to accomodate the long length, (neck needs to be stronger, maybe fatter, more expensive...), it's obviously less comfortable (longer reach required), ect...
