Which Neutrik Speakon Connector?

All the Speakon connectors need to be assembled, old or new.

No idea. I threw it out. When in use, my amp went to protection mode. Thankfully.

Assuming it was a legit Speakon it may have just not been put together correctly and shorted out in the connector. Wire stripped to far back and and a stray strand or two shorted to the other conductor, the grip may have came loose and the wires pulled out of the terminals that may not have been tightened or combinations of. If it was a knock off than anything is possible.
What are the connectors on your other cables.

Maybe not forever but I have original Neutrik SpeakOn connectors that are over 20 years old and still working like new. My best guess would be yours were Neutrik knockoffs. Many of those say Neutrik on the casings.
The only way to be sure is purchase from an authorized dealer.

You could always call Sweetwater and have them check theur cables to insure you get genuine Neutrik connectors.

Sweetwater no longer sells NL4FX connectors. I've had my Neutrik connectors for years as well.

I still have about 75 x 4 wire cables from the touring PA, almost 35 years without a single failure (except for the end that got completely cut off in a stage lift accident).

I began using these connectors in the late '90s. All are still working fine. I even have a small box full of them that I keep for spares but have never had to use any.

My favorite local dealer told me he never had problems with speakon connectors until the newer models came into rotation. It seems there definitely is a quality issue with the new models.

I just used 64 of these while assembling a new JBL coliseum/outdoor festival rig (Subs). Very easy to assemble (maybe experience with assembling several hundred or more NL4s and NL8s of various types and vintages helped). #8 Torx tool (much better than Posi-Drive), no other special tools needed.

Several shows and events out with the new rig, no issues or problems.

I've had no need or inclination to make speaker cables for my Subway rig using these newer connections. I use these....

And we still have and use these in our inventory...(oooh, why so big?)

And this is what I'm using my my Subway bass cabinets.

I'm just not understanding the issues and angst arising from using the newer NL4FXX-W-L connector above...... Not crusading for it or anything.....

Before the issue with the new Neutrik connectors came up I purchased 4 of the tan ones and made two soeaker cables. They work fine with regular Neutrik SpeakOn jacks. I don’t have any equipment with the combos, but would never use them with combo jacks.

Your JBL rig doesn't use the combo jacks (fortunately)!

They are what make up a SpeakOn cable, SpeakOn at both ends of the cable.

I hope I understand your question correctly.

You can’t plug 1/4” plugs into those. Those go on the ends of your speaker cables.

The jacks listed below mount in your speaker cabinet and can accept either 1/4” plugs or your genuine Neutrik SpeakOn connectors.

I think you must be talking about the Speakon plugs that have a 1/4 inch jack built into the back of them. If you do need a Speakon to 1/4 inch connection
you are much better off using a cable with a Speakon on one end and a 1/4 plug on the other.
