Need help please. As I see it my pedalboard lacks an overdrive pedal so when I went to a local store I was surprised by the selection. Things have definitely improved here in Dubai; a couple of years ago you would have struggled to find any effects pedals for bass. Will try out a couple of the overdrives before I buy but I need to narrow it down. I play various types of music and was looking for an overdrive to just kick in every now and then to add a bit of 'growl' not really looking for full on distortion. So here's a pic of what they have in my price range - Appreciate your thoughts please fellow TB'ers. (Ignore the EBS Comp & Boss Eq)

Great pedal that adds a little something when engaged. With judicious use of the mix knob, you can get some great tones.

I agree...however...not really a light overdrive though....
With this array, I would probably opt for the EBS Back Haze pedal.

TC electronices THE DRIVE is the one i think which is most overdriven without going into distortion. The others are more agressive. Maybe you like them, but you would have to demo them with DRIVE-knob set very low.
I would stay away from fuzz since that is the most over-the-top type of distortion.
Can you demo it instore with your own bass?

That's a decent selection right there - for a bit of Growl I'd try out the EHX Soul Food, The EBS The Ultimate (Billy Sheehan sig), and it looks like there's a Boss Bass Driver BB-1x there too.
Those would be the three I'd be looking at - all feature blends and EQs which will be helpful in exploring sounds and achieving versatility.
I would definitely try the black haze, soul food and bass big muff to see what you think. They all do wildly different things, but the best way to find out is to try them
One Control Hooker's Green Bass Machine seems like a great option for a growly bass overive, judging from the YouTube demos I have watched featuring it.

boss ODB-3 or DOD FX91 should not be overlooked here, either.
if you the "kicked on for enhanced moment" type of drive, these two do well. anything that can be an "always on" pedal never works for me as a temporary-use overdrive.

The OD pedals that have worked best for me are the ones that have separate Bass and Treble controls instead of just Tone. When I've experienced a noted loss of low frequencies with OD it's been with Tone-only pedals, not that all tone-only pedals do that. And some OD pedals work better with some of my basses than others (usually flats vs rounds), so I usually have multiple OD's on the board for different basses and needs.
I tried dozens of different bass dirt pedals, and the only thing that subjectively sounds good to me (especially in a mix) is a multi-band overdrive / distortion. That allows you to keep your lows unaffected and saturate highs only - starting from your EQ frequency of choice.
"Blend control" is not the same.
DarkGlass Microtubes X7 works fine for me. Although some would argue that it is a distortion, I like using it as an overdrive as well - just keep the drive low.

I really really like the Way Huge Green Rhino MK IV on bass. It's basically a Tube Screamer, but you can cut or boost 100Hz & 500Hz. It's pretty amazing.

I haven’t tried but like the sound of the bass soul food in YouTube demos.
Blend knob to blend in the unaffected signal, and makes a really good bite without quickly going into fuzzy buzz territory.
