Given your description of what you want and my experience, I’d go with the Bass Soul Food. I used one for very light OD for about a year until I got a CAL Grizzly Bass that kicked the Soul Food off of my board.

I have never had the opportunity to try the TC Drive Me Crazy nor the Black Haze, would be worth checking in the shop since you’re able.

I don’t think Big Muff when I think light OD. A Muff is a full-on fuzz pedal.

Thanks guys for the info. I'll go and try out the Soul Food and the EBS Black Haze. Thanks for all the honorable mentions of pedals that I didn't mention. Darkglass pedals are available at the same store but budget wise and sounds wise I think they are way beyond what I need. The G4 looks very interesting but probably won't get a chance to try that out, plus its a higher price. Anyway once I get the overdrive pedal bought hopefully that'll be enough - 8 months ago I had one pedal now I have 7 - what's happening to me!!!!

FYI. I noticed of the three EBS pedals, The Drive is the overdrive one, the other two are more heavy/fuzzy.

I had the OBD-3 and eventually sold it. It could sound crazy wild on heavy overdrive settings but has the problem every Boss pedal has, the range of the controls is VERY twitchy. It would go from light overdrive to over the top by turning the knob maybe 10 degrees. VERY hard to dial in.

I replaced it with a Fulltone BassDrive which is no longer available. To me the BassDrive is the best bass distortion pedal ever made, sounds fantastic, does not suck the bass tone and the controls are very wide ranging, kind of like the controls on an analog mixing console. Very consistent throughout their travel.

Does sound better with a dedicated PSU although it will run on batteries.

Jam session this past Sat and I tried out 2 with a live drummer.

I dug 'em both:
Queenberry
Basstortion (gain almost off)

I was really surprised by how well the Basstortion did with just a touch of edge dialed in, cut nicely.

FWIW, I hadda Malekko Diabolik and a MXR M85 going, neither of which needed or benefited by OD in front.
