which p/up conifguration is better for MM basses?

i am about to buy a new bass, either a stingray or bongo, not quite sure which one yet, and i was wondering if anyone has any more experience than me, which conifugration is better? is the HH, HS, or H, i havnt heard any HS but today i played a single humbucker stingray and it sounded fantastic.

at first i thought i would just get the HH because i can always just focus on the bridge pickup if i need to, but i noticed the bridge p/up is in a different position on the HH than the H.

My personal favorite is the HS. Idk why, I just like it.

It is not true that the bridge pickup on a HH stingray is in a different position than on the H. This is true for a bongo however.

None are better, all are different. Knowing what you want is key, otherwise maybe spend more time learning the differences, and finding what you prefer.

I am partial to the HS. I can get a respectable P Bass sound on the neck single coil, a good Jazz Bass sound with the neck and the bridge in single mode and of coarse the MM sound with the double coil at the bridge. I've ben told that the Music Man sound is a bit different than the single pick-up model, but with all of the tonal possibilities, it makes the HS a very versatile bass.

The H is the best in my opinion. I always play on the back pickup which is the only pickup there and it gives lots of room for slap.

I got a bongo HS
The single coil pickup really does well with the growl and of course you can switch to the H if you get too much buzz. I was looking for the HH when I first started searching down a MM.I'm satisfied with my choice.

I have all three. The bridge pickup soloed sounds identicle to the H, exact same pickup. Any perceived difference is due to different woods, setup, strings, etc. The HH gets a killer hifi slap sound with all coils selected(switch position 3). Position 4 sounds similar to my PJ, nice treble slice with a pick. Position 5 (neck soloed) is very P-ish.
The HS position 3 slap sound is a litter sharper, cuts better. The front coil in the HS in very trebley and much quieter than the other settings. My only issue is the low volume of positions 2 and 5. The output is so low it's not practical for me to switch between 1 and 5 or 2.
I find the HH to be much more versatile, but I tend to prefer the HS for slap and comfort. On the other hand, the H looks coolest to me...

I think I'd be happiest with a single H. Just... easier... and I like the bridge H tone the best, anyways.

wow, thanks for all the input guys, still havnt quite made a decision but i think i am def going with the stingray, i am leaning towards the H but probably need to spend more time learning the difference by playing
