Which Peavey USA should I buy next?

If you look at the picture long enough the strings would start vibrating and you'll be able to hear beautiful velvety sounds emanating from the bass! Trust me, it's true!

Ha! I started out with a four string maple body with maple top. Picked up a fiver with walnut and bubinga shortly after that. They both sound amazing, but the walnut/bubinga has this killer mid grind reminiscent of some Warwick tones. Ended up with a four and a six in that configuration as well. Love them all. Super well balanced across all strings, and the B string on a 35" Peavey is really, really good. That being said, Also have a GV that sounds fantastic. Very similar due to having same pickups and preamp as the Cirrus, but a little different due to the bold on graphite neck thing. More 'in your face' for lack of a better word. Also have a Millennium plus. Somewhere in the middle between the Cirrus and GV, but the mid sweep on the preamp really opens it up. Only thing I don't like about it is that the mid can actually be a little tricky to get back where you had it if it gets bumped or something. It's very effective, that's for sure. They all feel pretty similar in terms of weight and playability. If I had to choose just one, I couldn't go wrong with any. Oh, and I have a Fury P just for fun. That's a great little bass too!

ETA: Also had a G-Bass but let that one go. It was really good at what it did too.

I love the 80s SF Foundations. Surprised there are so few Millenium + mentions, esp the MM/J config. IMO the build quality is indistinguishable from any high end bass I've owned. It's also one of the more versatile basses I've owned. Hipshot hardware, drop tuner, pickup panning, sweepable mids, 35" scale and 18V preamp...and then throw in the fact that these can be had for not much more than the Foundations...I mean damn.

For ME, the answer is "All of the above"! I know the OP said he didn't like the T40 he owned in the past, but there are SO many things they can do so well and have a versatility that is hard to beat for a monumentally-overweight, 40-plus year old, first attempt by Peavey to build a bass ICON!

IMHO, of course. I enjoy fiddling with the T40FL and T20FL, but I'm never going to be a Jaco-like fretless player. The T45 is it's own animal, not just a T40 minus a pickup. The slant-PUP Fury and T20s I believe can stand toe-to-toe with any Fender "P". And as noted by several previous posters, there really is something special about the Patriot. A cheap, entry-level, single-PUP bass that sounds so much better than it has any business being!

So....short answer? Get 'em ALL!;)

I actually don't mind heavy basses. I just use them for recording or practicing or just looking or showing off. A bass guitar is a multi-tool! Thanks for the tip, man! And I really like the idea of 'Patriot to Ric conversion'! Of course, in my case that would turn out a freaking monster with no sound and ugly look!
Have it done. I'm no luthier, the trick is cutting the pickguard nicely, hides all the hacking!

I have the first gen Fury, which was a T-20 update... Better hardware, a little lighter. It looks great, feels great, and I LOVE the sound I get from this thing. Those super ferrite pups are HOT!!! And of all the basses I've owned, this is the only one where the strings resonate so well with the body, I don't even need an amp to hear what I'm playing. If I could only keep one bass out of my small Peavey collection, this would easily be it.

You *******! Now I'm obsessed with something that will not become available any time soon... :woot:

At least you got one. I'll always have that bug to search for one though. I've found a few unicorns in my life in my various hobbies...maybe I'll get lucky eh? Yeah right.

My Koa Unity bass had a sine wave for a neck. I'm sorry, but I cannot recommend that to you. It was a miserable excuse for a bass.

But, I had a Sarzo 4 and I really liked it. I also liked my Tim Landers 5. Both were premium, good sounding, good looking, and great playing basses.

So crazy...I just got on here to ask if anyone has experience with putting a short scale neck and moving the bridge on a full scale...because my 86 Patriot, which I love, has a bit of a twist to the neck and decimated frets.

When I see a bass like one of these I can easily imagine the guy who created and built it. He was probably an older dude, slim and quiet. Stainless steel frame, dry humor... He'd seen it all. He'd created many beautiful things and then he was ready to give live to the pinnacle of his imagination. That's how those beautiful basses were born.
Gorgeous guitars, man!

Tim Landers, the “TL” from Peavey’s TL basses is the designer.

I played T-40's and Dyna-basses in real time back in the day, so the allure has been strong right from the start.

Today, I have two Cirrus USA 18v active fivers, Peacock Blue and Ruby Red, in heavy rotation studio and stage. My Swiss Army basses, never failed me or the bands and engineers I work with. I'd run into a burning building to save those two basses.

You can still land one of the original run USA models gently used for around $900-$1000 w/OHSC if you're patient. Maybe a few bucks less for a four-banger.
