Which Peavey USA should I buy next?

Anything over 9 lbs is heavy these days for this old back!....11 to 13 lbs is not only very heavy, its not something i want to own at all!

My bud has bought and sold 60's Fender basses for years and the ones he kept are around 8 lbs, some a slight bit less....(my bud is old as well).

'Depends on how you define heavy LOL!' Exactly! Talk to some g****r people and they would be like 'This axe is over 5LB! Too heavy!' Compared to them we, 'The Bass Nation' people, are heavyweight champions sporting our 8LB instruments no problem!

Don’t forget about a Rudy Sarzo or Verdine White signature bass.

When I see a bass like one of these I can easily imagine the guy who created and built it. He was probably an older dude, slim and quiet. Stainless steel frame, dry humor... He'd seen it all. He'd created many beautiful things and then he was ready to give live to the pinnacle of his imagination. That's how those beautiful basses were born.
Gorgeous guitars, man!

My $100 Fury... it's the ideal P bass for those looking for a lighter alternative with a smooth easy playing neck. My particular Fury currently has the pickups, wiring and pots of a CV P Bass (was part of a project) and I haven't removed it since. No, it's not likely going to trump a $2000-3000 bass but you certainly get a pretty darn good bass for your money.

Yeah, dude! Fury is a simple and straightforward killer machine with totally unbeatable tone! I got one and I want more!

Here are pretty accurate weights of all my basses for comparison's sake:

1992 Peavey Fury 8.50 lbs
1992 Peavey Fury 8.25 lbs
1990 Peavey Fury 8.35 lbs
1983 Slant Fury 9.40 lbs (this also has an EMG pre in it)
1987 Peavey Patriot 8.50 lbs
1985 Peavey Foundation 8.80 lbs
1982 Peavey T20 9.75 lbs
1997 Peavey G Bass 7.73 lbs
1985 Guild Pilot 8.15 lbs
1990 Yamaha Attitude 9.60 lbs
2001 Dean Euro Improv 9.70 lbs
2005 MusicMan USA SUB 8.90 lbs
Thanks for the info, man!
If you were a manager of a Peavey NFL team you would probably have Slant Furies as an Offensive Linemen and T-20s as Defensive Tackles. You, guys, would be unbeatable!

@58kites

Those weights are about the same I get. Course we know this place well enough, minute Peaveys get mentioned it turns into TalkBS :roflmao:

Have you actually played one ?

Unicorn Peavey. That'll be one of these.

You're totally right! Only 4 Grinds were made. But 3 out of 4 were destroyed in an asteroid accident happened in Meridian, MS, shortly after. Hartley took it as a bad sign and moved production to Vietnam. True story!
Man, I'm so happy for you! You got the biggest Peavey family I've ever seen! Must be endless fun.

Only 4 Grinds were made.
No the bass I pictured was the Resolite. John Fields has one,John Faro has another,a fella who left Peavey to work for Acoustic has the 3rd.
The 4th is with me in Scotland.

USA Grind is the orange 5 string in the middle.

Also come in 4 strings same as this.

No point in looking at Axcelerators, your Forum AX is basically the same bass only a different PG.The poplar body doesn't cut the weight by much.

The same goes for standard Foundation. Put your Dynabass in passive and you have a Foundation. Guess the folks suggesting Foundations didn't read your post too well

Patriot vs Fury. Pickup on the Patriot is 1" closer the bridge than a P-bass style Fury, they also have sweet wider necks. Well most have sweet wide necks, for a short time thinner nut necks were an option.

TL-5. If you fancy another 5'er then look for the 2nd gen TL-5,active humbuckers and variable mids  The 1st gen is not a whole lot different than your Dynabass, OK it's neck through/24 frets and 5 strings so maybe different enough there but not in tone.

Foundation-S is a decent PJ bass but if you prefer a wider neck look for a B-90.
I've never played an Axcellerator. If you've tried them both (Axcellerator and Forum AX) would you say that they have different sound and personalities or pretty similar? I love Forum AX but I really like Axcellerator's colors and textures. Also, as far as I know, it's got a slimmer neck and slightly different pickups. Judging by the looks, at least for me, Axcelerator is more like a gracious creature in a Millennium USA way.

'Put your Dynabass in passive and you have a Foundation.' I like a Dyna pre-amp but lately if I have a dead battery, I just don't care and play it passive until I'm kinda 'Time to do something important! Let's replace a battery in a Dyna!' Otherwise who cares? Potayto, potahto, it's got a great sound anyway! :D

You totally talked me into thinking about buying a Patriot. Looks like I'd like it!

I'm not sure about TL-5. I had one in my possession for couple of months or so (1st gen) and it felt like peacocked Dyna. I enjoyed playing it but never felt any mojo emanating. I would be happy to stumble upon 2nd gen TL-5 some day, though.
Thanks for your advice and expertise!

Sorry, I tried to be funny with that 'Asteroid accident' story.
I've never even heard about Resolite!
What's that one to the right from Orange Grind? The one with sparkles?

Do you mean USA Grind? Yes about 20ish years ago I let a brand new candy tangerine 5er get away as I was looking for one in black. Someone beat me to it as I was paying off my USA Millennium. Still number two on my bucket list after a particular maple board Millennium.
Your unicorn is beautiful by the way. Don't recall ever seeing a 2+2 headstock on a peavey before.

No need to apologise. There's very few are aware of the Resolites, production was pulled at the very last minute. Never went beyond the catalogue entry.

Like @bassmanrocke said, the sparkle one is a G-bass. Surplus Forum pickup and a Cirrus preamp. You'll hear it said the necks are Modulus, they're not !! The question was put to Geoff Gould and his answer "Nope, had nothing to do with them" Gun stock company,Bell & Carlson, did the carbon wrap for Peavey.

Heard a lot about B-Quad, never had a chance to try it. How do you like the 'feel' of the graphite neck? Does it feel different than wood?
I picked up a b-quad this year. It's my new number 1. Neck feels great, only issue I had was I'm one of those guys that gets distracted by shiny objects and squirrels. At outdoor shows that graphite neck just pops. No more truss rod adjustments, great feel, (I like a thin neck) and incredibly versatile tone. Unfortunately I'd consider this a bit of a unicorn. I'd been shopping for one for a couple years, and they don't come up that often.

If you get a chance, try a modulas, that would give an idea of what the neck feel like. The necks were made by modulas (to peavey specs).
