I have to chime in here - I'm not particularly attracted to red instruments, but man, the CAR with the red tort guard is smokin'... especially against a rosewood board! Same reason I like the look of the Pino bass. I vote red tortoise.

This thread got to me. I was digging my anodized and white guards until I saw some shots of black. Made the change yesterday:

It's a dust magnet now, but I dig that. Matches the vibe of the rest of the instrument, methinks.

I like darker color pgs with rosewood and lighter with maple. Notice the black pg screws on the Sterling.

That's an AllParts Parchment pg on my P(arts)-bass.
BTW, I think the black pg on the CAR w/ rosewood is stunningly nice!

I don't know about CAR... but red and gold was working for me until people kept talking about mint green?! That sounds awesome but no one has any pictures?

Pearloids look cheap no matter what color (sorry).

Black or mint; that's all. Gold anodized looks dull if the lighting is wrong.

I haven't played the newer active models they did after 2004, are they as good?

My jag in candy apple red has a cream pickguard. It looks amazing:

This is what I'll be doing with my Candy Cola Red P5 shortly, mainly because the beige/cream PG blends well with the maple fretboard/neck.

Bought this mid-70's P in the mid 80's; has an A neck too.
It came with a gold anodized guard but I bought this WD pearl guard way back then.
Not so sure they had the creamy MOT back then but this one yellowed nicely and I believe it is a nitro guard.

Have been thinking it's just a little "much" and have a black anoidzed guard that doesn't look right without gloss. Saw a CAR Jaguar with a mint guard and may go this route or perhaps cream or black. Have held up a white and parhement guard and didn't think it worked with the maple neck. Thought this photo might help somebody although I am thoroughly confused as to what I like anymore.
BTW, notice how dark this CAR is compared to the new basses. Took this photo a number of times to get color as accurate as I can without lights.
