I recently put this baby together with a Fender American Performer body and Freestone neck. Delano pickups and Kluson bridge. I had two pickguards made by Chandler: one in Purple Candy Crush and one in Tan Conch. Both were a bit of a gamble but I love them both. Which would you choose? Don't say tort... lol. I love tort but my goal was to do something a bit weird here.

Neither pickguard is screwed down yet, but I will do that once I finally decide which one I want to use. Fortunately, I can switch between them at any time. The gig bag has a nice pouch that neatly holds the spare.

I would also say tan conch between these two, but I guess the issue is that I personally would not vote for either of these two. I was looking for "carrots" but was left sad that wasn't an option.

3TSB, for me anyways, is not really ripe for crazy PG swaps, which is one reason I don't especially care for it. It's way too "classic" to be messed with, and that doesn't do it for me. In this case, I'd consider a mint green guard for something a bit different, but again (IMHO), 3TSB isn't really capable of "different" without looking all kinds of shoehorned

All good! I like them both so really the poll is just for fun. I totally get what you are saying, and decided to try to get weird with 3TSB... which was a risk, but I'm personally happy with both results. They each have a fair amount of reddish browns and golds in the swirl pattern that "match" better than I initially thought they would - of course, they look better in person. But everybody's tastes are different and I realize these are both probably off-putting to most people :D

I definitely appreciate the commitment to personalizing the bass, and going for something less predictable and common. In this case, it's a matter of taste/preference, and if they are doing it for you, then rock the eff out of them! No doubt the bass sounds excellent, regardless of our differing aesthetic opinions :thumbsup:

I voted for the conch because they are tasty. Both guards meet your requirement of "weird". I like both. 3TSB already has a lot going on so adding more is tricky. Like wearing plaid pants and a striped shirt-difficult to pull off. I stand and applaud your refusal to go with tort. I have a black guard on my 3TSB P bass and it is quite respectable. But that is not your goal. I suggest go with the conch for a month, then switch to the purple. Repeat. Have some fun! Add some tension!

That is because I am far from an expert! You may well be right and me wrong. Neither of us could be very far wrong though - not when there are only 2 choices. We have both just proved they are clearly good ones. :smug:
