Which pre/eq pedal

Wanted to get some opinions on a good pre/eq pedal to go after.
Bass is a Fender Modern Player jazz V.
Amp is a Hartke LH1000 into a Hydrive 410. I pretty much keep the eq around the flat location (2-10-2).

I got the bass last Thursday and played it at a gig on Saturday night. The bass sounded superb with these settings but there are a couple of spots in our set where I do some thumbing and popping and could have really used a different setting to highlight that tone/style. So for about 95% of our set-list I'm good, but need something else for the other 5%!

What I'm looking for is something to get me that shimmery, sparkly top end, a little bit of the mid scoop and the nice low end bump. I've always liked Marcus Millers tone on the jazz bass for slap stuff.

Anyhow, I know there are lots of products out there so I turn to TB. I've been eying stuff like the Sadowsky DI, the Eden WTDI, the Boss GEB-7 bass EQ and everything in between. I'm trying to keep the budget around $150ish. And I have no need for any of the overdrive features either.

I'd check out the Para Eq from Empress. I've had clients use that before on Bass

Thanks. Not sure if I'm ready to drop the $$ for something I may not use a bunch like the Empress. Kind of eliminates the Sadowsky too. Just need to dial in that nice hi fi slap tone for a minute or two and then it's out.

The Sadowsky is more for warming up your signal if you can find a used Tone Hammer that would work and the EQ I like the most is the Dr Scientist The Cleanness.

Check out the EWS Tri-Logic preamp pedal.

Run the neck pickup full and back the bridge one off a little. Tone full on.

Why not the Hartke bass attack pedal? They are dirt cheap and awesome.

Agreed, and at the risk of sounding like a broken record...

EWS BMC

They run less than $150 new, and you can use it for anything tone related.
They pop up every now and again here used too for about $100.

My 2 cents, the Markbass Mini Boost. Has the VPF knob that all Markbass amps have. I use it exclusively to dial in a slap tone. Basically the knob works as such: turn it clockwise, cuts mids and boosts bass and treble.

Another to consider is the Markbass Super Booster. Has built in DI and an extra VLE knob.

Good call Jimmy! I was actually looking at this pedal a few days ago. Went to my local GC and they had this on clearance for $75. Saw your post when I got back home. I think this might do the trick.

Nice! I hope it works out for you.. it did for me. I actually own the super booster and the mini boost, I am getting rid of my super booster because I wanted more pedals on my pedalboard..haha Anways, enjoy it!

Ive been using a Radial Tone Bone for years, 2 inputs so you can level match 2 diff Bases, dedicated power supply for tons of headroom(No battery option), input 1 has 3 presets, input 2 has powerful tone 3 band tone scultping capability and a boost option for good measure. Built like a Tank but not cheap

Nice! I hope it works out for you.. it did for me. I actually own the super booster and the mini boost, I am getting rid of my super booster because I wanted more pedals on my pedalboard..haha Anways, enjoy it!

I'm sure it will work fine. The thing I like about the boost is I can match up the humbucker and single coil sounds on the bass. The HB's are a hotter, fuller sound. Then add in the VPF when it's time to go thumpety thump.

The Eden WTDI is great. I didn't like it at first, but I do now. I have a Navigator on my backup rig, and while it isn't EXACTLY the same, it still sounds great. The MXR 10 Band EQ has a lot of tweakability, and of course the BDDI is just great for everything.

I have used the Boss EQ and it's fine. It just has less options than the MXR. That's all the experience I have to offer. Good luck!
