"Dunning-Kruger effect"?!?!?! Wow ... takes a psychological expert to recognize, define and even give a name to normal human behavior?!?!? Why can't a normal human recognize normal human behavior, even if it's behavior that's on the one end of the range or the other? Psychology is the most useless of all academic degrees and I make no apologies for that opinion. (and my first cousin is a psychologist, so I'm not totally disinterested).

Well said and he is THE KILLER and truly awesome! Unfortunately his relationship with Myra thing didn't turn out well in quite a few ways. But it did give us:

Does anyone know if these take standard short-scale strings? I ask because my Ibanez AGB 200 short scale actually takes medium length strings.

Yes, OK on mine. Your opinion on weight and neck? Mine was a little on the heavy side and kinda chunky. Personal prefs, I guess. It sure puts out some real nice sound, though, right?

Bearing in mind that I've only played it for about a half hour so far... heavier than the Ibanez semi-hollow body but lighter than my Squier P Bass. If that's helpful at all. I don't find anything unusual about the neck so far. And yes, it sounds great, though I want to restring with flats and keep on the bassiest setting, as I'm not much of a rocker.

Maybe it's a newbie option but I have a Talman short scale, there's definetely some neck dive but it's super fun to play, you get a lot for the buck plus it looks really cool to me.

Would love to try one, if only I could get a lefty version.

The mini P does feel like a toy. I play short scales exclusively, but the mini P is just too diminutive.

SX makes some very good short scale basses that are very affordable, and comparable to Squire in quality. This is the model I bought in the Netherlands:

This one was bought in the Netherlands. From what I understand SX basses with that same headstock were sold in the US as well. It was mentioned in this forum somewhere.

Based on your stated goal of fitting in tight spaces I think you should reconsider the SBMM stingray. It’s not more expensive than others on your list and the bridge placement and 3x1 headstock make it really compact even compared to other short scales. Plus they sound really good.
