There are also QC issues that are fixable (like the ones in the Newport video) and ones that are much larger problems (like on the Fender Gold Foil Jazz Bass video.)

Another thing that I thought was weird is that he doesn't put any of the blame on Sweetwater, even though they say every instrument undergoes a "55-point inspection" that should absolutely catch a lot of the issues he puts on the manufacturers' QC departments. If a manufacturer should catch it, so should Sweetwater.

Probably because we all know the 55 point inspection is just fake marketing?

Well. were I in your shoes, I'd break out my Danelectro Longhorn. Very short (exactly the same size as an ES-335 guitar); very light (mine weighs 5.13lbs.); it will sound like whatever you want it to (a real "string chameleon"); and trust me; it will get you noticed. Don't worry, you won't be alone, either. Quite a few bassists have played a Longhorn on stage. I like mine - with 39-96 La Bella 760FX Flats - quite a lot...:cool:

I very much like it, now. That's one of those eyguitar tbird pickups, iirc. Whatever it was, it was about $50 and really woke the bass up.

Before the mods, I have to say it sucked. The tuners were some of the grittiest, sloppiest garbage I had ever used and the stock pickups were weak, especially the bridge J. I did the bridge just to do the bridge but everything else was necessary-even the pots and jack. Honestly, if I hadn't gotten it for super cheap I wouldn't have bought it, at all.

I’m thinking this might be something fun to do. I like the look of that , it’s got a bit of an offset Paul Barth vibe.

This is the cancer of all internet forums, I'm afraid. People simply ignoring your reasons for doing something and instead of helping you achieve what you want to achieve, they try to convince you that what you want to do is stupid. I think this is a form/manifestation of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

"Dunning-Kruger effect"?!?!?! Wow ... takes a psychological expert to recognize, define and even give a name to normal human behavior?!?!? Why can't a normal human recognize normal human behavior, even if it's behavior that's on the one end of the range or the other? Psychology is the most useless of all academic degrees and I make no apologies for that opinion. (and my first cousin is a psychologist, so I'm not totally disinterested).
