Which Squier is for me.

Yes, yes it does. I had that as my #1 choice for my new bass until I picked one up... They are very heavy! I think that most people would prefer something a bit lighter, it's not going to be comfortable for an extended period of play.

the three that i've had come thru my warehouse were all right around 9 lbs. doesn't seem heavy to me, but then again my MIM jazz 5 weighs in at 14

I'm not sure where you're getting that number from because the one that I picked up seemed a lot heavier then 9 pounds - I pegged it closer to 12/13. 8/9 pounds is what I figured the VM hanging next to it weighed, which is more appropriate for most people IMO.

Just weighed mine on the bathroom scale....10.2 lbs. Remember, it's a VM 5 string.

My vote is for the jazz. I prefer the thinner neck and the overall look.
Plenty of punk/rock guys playing P's and J's, so either way you can't go wrong, but I personally like the sound of a J better.

Question for those of you with the Jazz. Are the block inlays plastic, painted? Also what about the binding on neck?
The new ones I see in Sunburst with rosewood fretboard, state Basswood body. What would the difference in sound be from the maple bodies?
