Which Squier VM?

Yeah, that black and maple jazz is a sight to behold. Mirror image of my buddy's Stratocaster but with the added beauty of blocks and binding. I thought I had sated my gas 'til I saw that.

I know right, I'm having to fight the urge to break out the old credit card that I told myself was for emergency use only.

I had the Jag and the Jazz in my AMS shopping cart already today but I talked myself out of it :D

Here's that Amber P that I already returned. It's tone was the best of all I tried but it only had the one tone in it so I had to leave it to others that can afford to buy a bass for every tone. But yeah it has a tight tone that was just beautiful.

I ended up buying a pointy headstocked Jackson PJ thinggy. I can't help it if that's what spoke to me. And this thing is versatile!

But you see salcott, that's the danger you face when upgrading a less expensive bass like that. It's more than likely you're not going to make back what money you put into it, no matter how better a bass it turns out to be. To most people all te extra money you spent is not going to impres aanybody, because they'll think the exact same thing that Hopkins said, why pay $450 for a $250 bass? The upgrades are irrlelevant to them.
No offense meant here salcott, I understand you're trying to recoup what you put into this bass, which is fair, IMO, but I'm just trying to give you fair warning, you're likely not going to get what you're asking.

Bridge upgrade, pickup upgrade, new pick guard, frets dressed and leveled, highend strings. It's a much better instrument than what it started out as. If it's not your deal, butt out.

First of all, your probably not supposed to try and advertise your for sell stuff outside of the classifieds section.

Secondly, a fret job, and strings are general maintenance, thats like trying to sell a car for more money because you just had a brake job done on it.

And last of all, you are still trying to sell a $250 bass for $400

Here's a shot of my VMS Maple/Amber Squier Precision. I bought it as a platform for modding. I went with the Squier because Fender doesn't have any maple body/maple fb models. I added a BAII bridge, Fender Original '62 PUPs and Ernie Ball Cobalt strings.

The neck needed some TLC out of the box. The fret edges were sharp and protruding a bit, so I had to file them down a little. Also, the frets needed leveled and of course it needed a setup. Finally, there was a bit of glue on the fretboard that needed sanded off. In the end, it is a wonderful playing, beautiful sounding bass.

As for tonal versitility, its a P Bass. It sounds like a P Bass like it should...

I'm fully aware what the bass costs new, etc, etc, blah blah woof woof..... I also don't particularly care if it sells-I merely passed along to the OP information regarding an instrument that might fit his needs.

Re fret job-roughly80% of basses I've tried in stores in the last ten years or would have to have had fret work to meet my playability requirements.

And, BTW, if you bother to read the whole thread, there is a price drop bump-maybe not enough for the tire-kickers and experts, but a reduction nonetheless.
