Which Stomp Makes A Kick Drum Effect?

I think it was here that I saw some info on this type of pedal.

I think it was a piezzo mic in a box or sumpthin' like that.

Got a small window of opportunity to make and test one for myself, but I don't know where to start searching for it on the engine here.

Any info would be helpful.

I'm sure theres some sort of pedal that could trigger a stored MIDI with each stomp. I'm interested in this too - I can't think of anything I know that does this off the top of my head.

People call them "wood stomp boxes" and a google search turns up jillions of pages, but it's really about as simple as DIY gets.

The only critical thing is to get a piezo buzzer. You can get these at Radio Shack or any place that sells electronic parts. Crack the plastic casing off of it. Glue it or tape it to your box, connect the 2 leads to the 2 tabs of a mono 1/4" jack.

The box can be anything you can stomp on without breaking.

No injury intended - searching just stomp boxes will find plenty of effects pedals but not what you're looking for. Also, a lot of DIY pages have very specific instructions, which is good in a way, but sometimes I think people worry about making the details exactly the same as the instructions say. I find it useful to understand the basic idea, and what's really important, before getting into the details.

In this case, details don't really matter - I've seen people build them in metal boxes, cigar boxes, solid wood, etc. Even cardboard works. The only thing that needs to be there is the piezo element (or speaker as in your example) soldered to a jack.

Did you hear the tone of the speaker pick-up? It was meaty and solid.

Hmmmm...............................................

Maybe a dual pick-up inside -

1) a 4-6" speaker and
2) a piezzo with a switch to change from one to the other.

This can get good!
