Which Tuning?

Might not be as easy as that. Different gauge strings mean alot of adjustment, and the nut would need filing down to go bigger, or replacing to go smaller.
I'd go for contrabass, I know it's a spare bass but your more likely to get some use out of that, I'm pretty sure piccolo will sound pretty rubbish anyway. "Tenor" might be interesting but I still think "Contra" will be the most fulfilling and you might actually wind up using it properly.
I'd vote tenor. 'ts what I'm gonna do with my spare. I want to actually get some use out of it instead of just having it as a 'backup'.

That's what I plan on doing with my Geddy, when I get it out of layaway.
My current 4 string fretted is tuned like this and it's awesome.

DGCF using .050 / .070 / .090 / .110 gauge strings - it sounds great, and has slightly less tension than a set of 45105's tuned EADG

I don't have enough info to vote. What genres do you play? What do you like/hate about EADG?
If EADG is OK or better, I suggest using the 2nd bass as a "string lab".

Piccolo. Mind you, I wouldn't try to fill the typical bass' space w/this tuning, but it is a way to have a totally different range of notes in a familar package. And all you totally off-topic guys, there's this really cool forum called *off-topic*- meet me there, eh?
probably the easiest would be to change your eadg jazz to either a adgc or a bead string and tuning. i have a mm stingray 5 and it required no permanent modifications to go from a beadg to a eadgc. just adjust the intonation and maybe a truss rod adjustment. piccolo will mean a new nut as your new strings will be of a much lighter gauge. i would try the easiest first as you may find that what you like requires no big hassle whereas if you were to go piccolo and didn't like it then you're looking at a couple of nut changes and a new set of strings minimum.
I've strung basses piccolo a few times & never had a problem w/the nut(EADG on 4s & BEADG on 5). It's not ideal, but for a testing thing it's pretty stinkin' easy.
I play everything from jazz to death metal. I already have two EADG basses, so I just want a different tuning on this one.
