I am interested in a new everyday driver bass. I play some rock and metal in the studio for recording and also play in a cover band doing 90's rock and R&B. I usually play Ibanez basses but want to upgrade. Here are the main basses I am looking at, all of them are comparable in pricing on Reverb currently. I just can't decide! They all seem to have their pros and cons, and unfortunately, they aren't close for me to test them in person. What would you buy? I know there are a ton of Fender players so I expect the Fenders will get higher responses. I am leading towards the Warrior Messenger, but then it is an active bass and I was originally going to go for a passive bass, but the Warrior is so light and awesome sound. I just don't know, I could make a case for any of these. I am tempted to learn the fanned fret but also scared it will mess with my playing so I am nervous about the Dingwalls but I know they are amazing basses. The Roscoe and the Warrior are both like something of a level I never thought I could afford but there is one of each in my price range. Love to hear your thoughts!

Elite Jazz for me since I may need a solidly built, active, noiseless jazz bass soon ..

Yeah, and there's a good reason for that.
There have been many great Fender basses played in the wild,
in spite of the fact that some were not so great.

I personally haven't had a problem with the Fender/Squire's that I own,
but I also own non-fender's that I don't have problems with either,
so I'm not sure which category I fit.

I haven't played any of the ones on your list so I can't be of any real help.
But if someone was going to give me one from your list,
I'd choose the Ultra Precision.

However, @BillCantos has a damn good point as well,
so the Messenger would also blow my skirt up..057912

I love Fenders, so that would be my vote. The ultra P is a nice versatile option that you can use with any project and it will be a recognizable look while also being inconspicuous. You’ll blend right in! Aftermarket parts are easy to acquire and mods are easy to perform.

Srsly though… those are all great brands/options. Choose what will make you happy and serve your needs.

You will likely make the best music with gear that inspires you. If you're "not a Fender guy", don't get one. If you think the Warrior or the Roscoe Willamette you grin every single time you pick them up, that is your path forward.

There's not a "bad" bass in that list. None of them are the "wrong" answer.

But there are bound to be one or two that just make your pulse rate go up a tiny bit when you imagine playing them. Choose one of those. Then you can't be wrong.

Don't choose the bass you think you "should" get. Choose the one you really want. You can always grab a Fender later if you think it's a tool you need.

And I say all of these as a guy who owns, and really likes, several Fender basses and FSOs (Fender Shaped Objects). But that's me. You do you.

Without a doubt, the Ultra P would be my choice. Which one? Meaning which fingerboard? If its Rosewood: I'd put some Tis on there; If Maple, that gets either EB Cobalt Flats or Labella 760s. Oh man..... either way. You'll be VERY happy. But to be honest, you should be choosing based on the neck and your preferences, cause your list contains a vast array.

I can’t make that decision for you. If you can’t decide, you haven’t put enough time and thought into it. My advise is never spend money unless you are darn sure it’s “The One”.

Be patient. There will always be basses for sale so there is no need to rush.

The Kiloton has a unique voice; it’s be at the top of my list. A J is the complementary voice (scooped where the kiloton speaks), there are so many people making a version of those that you can pick one of those up easily any time you want.

I'm sure you have your wish list for features. Mine are pup configuration neck profile and weight. I would probably end up with an ultra Jazz even though I like P/ Js. Check your boxes and only compromise where it won't bother you considering the price range.
