Whirlwind Red Box Compressor?

Anyone use one of these for their bass? I am a guitar player, but recently picked up a p-bass and was messing around with the Red Box comp and seems to sounds great with the p-bass. Also there the bass through an original 1986 RAT pedal and a Small Stone phaser and that was fun, too.

just wondering about the Whirlwind Red Box with the bass. Thanks!

thanks, but your reply really didn't address any part of my question. and it's designed by the guy who designed the first MXR dynacomp actually. i am a guitar player, and i know guitarists like these. i was simply wondering if any bass players use these.

If *you* like it, it doesn't matter what others think. Maybe you will start a new trend!

I've never tried the Red Box, but I always found the dynacomp to be too much of an effect rather than a compressor... if that makes sense. I also thought it cut too much lows IIRC. But that may not apply to the Red Box.

To be honest, I generally do not bother with a compressor. When I do, I use a Markbass Compressore.

Sorry I should have been more specific. "The guy who designed the first MXR Dynacomp" was two guys, Keith Barr and Richard Neatrou. Just because one of them was involved in Whirlwind's repro of the same old circuit doesn't mean anything. It's still the same old circuit. People like to pretend that using carbon-comp resistors or other "mojo" components somehow makes one or another version "better", but the fact is those tweaks have no benefit to bassists. In the majority of variations this circuit is noisy, has no threshold control, and rolls off the low end. My line about "guitarists love these" was an attempt to be humorous (I know, not a good attempt) about the fact that most of these Dynacomp variations are crappy for bass.
