white bass turning yellow?

The patina occurs as a result of aging, with the help of sweat and sunlight. I don't know if you can permanently keep a white from going yellowish, but like previously mentioned, wipe it down after playing, keep it out of prolonged periods of time in the sunlight and wax it monthly (or thereabouts) with Zymol, the sky blue car polish you can get at Wal-mart for about $12. Takes less than 10 minutes to do.

That stuff is great for a guitar's finish and your case will also smell like the Swedish Bikini team after you are done waxing.

I don't think there is anything you can do to stop the bass from changing color - its something in the paint and whatever was used to seal the paint. I've attached a photo of my mid 1960s Jazz Bass - while its called Olympic White its as Yellow as Yellow Can Be. In fact, when I bought it in 1977, it had already turned color.

How to prevent it from happening? I know its going to take quite awhile, but is there anyway to prevent that from happening at all?

It's often the clearcoat yellowing, and usually not preventable.
I wouldn't be too concerned about it, it shows age and character.

Dude, that's my favorite color - Aged Vintage White, Olympic White, Alpine White - whatever it is in the beginning! When it turns that yellowish-white . . . WOW! I tried to get a custom painter to paint my '04 American Stratocaster that aged color . . . he couldn't guarantee the final color though!

Let it yellow . . . you'll have me and a lot of other players so jealous!

I've got a '79 Music Man Sabre that I bought new back then and it was white, it now has yellowed and I think it looks very cool if I must say.

A nicely aged white bass looks wonderful.

*Exception*
If you have an alpine white bass that's totally pure, bright white, it would look better if it stayed that way.

someone mentioned the fine grit sanding and wax,that is what I was going to say and he is right.I just built a guitar and it had the same problem.I started to clean it and wiped it down with a scotchbrite pad then rubbed out the finish then put a coat of wax.I actually liked the yellowing and it was by accident that I took it down a little to much.You can also if your good with spraypaint hit a light coat of clear on it.Mine came out nice but I would have left it but there were marks on the finish

this is the finished product,I since put a gold Les Paul humbucker on it.The pickguard is bronze.I know its a guitar but I felt it was relevant because of the white paint.I made this out of all strange parts laying around the house.Peavey Razer neck Ibanez RG body Les Paul pickup switch craft jack and volume pot and a Floyd Rose bridge,I am now building a FrankenBass

You can put a finish on with UV protection i.e. auto wax or Virtuoso guitar finish, but why? As many have said, let it go vintage mojo white. The neck will go amber and you'll have the vintage package look! IMHO.
