i don't see any way that rickenbacker could license a quality low-cost line and have it be true to the ric tradition and also not hurt their core business.
not to go against the flow, but honestly i hope ric doesn't do any kind of "new coke" modernization. i like what they have going on - i think the only real updates the original designs needed were addressed. and i'm glad they don't license their designs to anyone - look at mac and the pc. ibm didn't enforce their patents and allowed folks to make copies, macs did. apple may have suffered some for it briefly, but ibm isn't even in the pc business anymore. if rickenbacker were to go out of business, or have their business suffer in any way whatsoever, because of asian ripoffitis, that would be a tragedy of epic proportions imo. i don't see any way that rickenbacker could license a quality low-cost line and have it be true to the ric tradition and also not hurt their core business.
I have relatives in the UK and I wonder if they would pick one of those Rockinwhatevers up for me and ship it here to the US? Hmmmm.....
(knock on the door..."what? I didnt meant to...hey, those bass strings hurt!")
NINE! I will not infringe on the good name of Rickenbacker and its incredibly handsome owner and fuhrer über Deutschland !!!

??? Apple Ripping off IBM *** are you talking about??? Apple invented the personal computer.
Right now they are an "IN" item, but Kramer and BC Rich used to be A LOT MORE hip than Rickenbacker is right now.
I haven't seen one Ric copy that could pose a threat to an actual Ric.
yeah, obviously they can't - guess rickenbacker doesn't have the guns to handle an international lawsuit. it's a shame that one of the real innovators in electric bass history is getting scammed this way.
But a Ric would be far cheaper!!!![]()
Where can you find a Ric "far cheaper" than £1500???????
Ernie Ball Music Man proved with their SUB line that an inexpensive line of basses could be made in the US that were up to the same standards as their marquee basses. Unfortunately it's gotten to expensive to do that in the US these days. But Ric could do something similar in Asia if they are willing to spend some money and police the quality control. I would bet that a Ric selling for $1,000 or less would be a big seller if it stayed true to the original.
