Who currently makes a nice Rickenbacker 4001 copy?

I've heard about the old Ibanez bases of the late 70's, just wondering who currently makes decent ones...

No one, at least no manufacturer who might sell Ric copies in the U.S.

Rickenbacker is very aggressive in protecting their designs (and rightfully so, in my book).

My local shop has one of these, in "Fireglo".
Not too bad, fairly chunky neck, but I really can't stand the Fender style cover on the bridge, I'd buy it if I could get a Ricky bridge pickup/cover set.
The bridge looks good, lol, probably better than the proper Rickenbacker one!

i'm sure its basically carbon copy with through neck and everything.

BUT really rare to find, more common are the 4005 copy's.

I was after one but in end gave up and i am now planning to get a real Rick for my 21st, if i save enough.

Good luck searching though.

A local shop had the tokai 'rockinbetter' in used for £250. It was a fairly quality instrument, not ric standard of course but well worth the price and definately had a ric vibe to it.

I was considering buying it but decided to order a nice Geddy Jazz instead. . if you can find one in the US i'd say get it.

..but keep in mind you may not be able to resell it on the internet (or maybe even craigslist, for that matter)....John Hall is muy aggresivio about the sale of fakers. He's effectively made it difficult to do so without using "rickenbacker" in the ad copy. I get the feeling someone there spends their daily lunch break googling these sorts of ads and having them removed. (Who knows, maybe even 'rickenfaker" 'rick clone" "rockingbetter", etc., are googled). The design of the bass is his intellectual property., and he vigorously defends it. RIC stopped Jason Lollar from making a repro horseshoe pickup, and I believe RIC also tried to prevent Hipshot from selling their RIC replacement bridge because it is similar to the footprint of the original. The RIC world still awaits with baited breath the genuine RIC improved bridge, promised for years.... it appears to me they don't like competing with replacement products already out there, and some RIC players feel that is an unjust punishment, even though they would be willing to buy a horseshoe pup or bridge if RIC themselves offered it...some of these parts are in major need of being brought into the 21st century, but RIC is based in Tradition, sells all the guitars they can make, faults and all, and this is not meant as a criticism but only a commentary (disclaimer).

yeah, obviously they can't - guess rickenbacker doesn't have the guns to handle an international lawsuit. it's a shame that one of the real innovators in electric bass history is getting scammed this way.
