Ive seen you mention Ben Harper and Juan Nelson before, Ive heard of him, even read an article on Juan Nelson, but for the life of me I cant remember what style of music they play. Can you refresh my memory please.

Im still partial to Eddie Jackson's tone. Especially on Operation MindCrime and Empire.

Ryknow - Mudvayne - Warwick

Timmy C - Rage Against the Machine - Musicman

Stu Zender - Jamiroquai - Warwick

Tony Kanal - No Doubt - Yamaha, Jazz Bass, Musicman 5

Dirk Lance - Incubus - Warwick

You'll notice three Warwicks up there, mmm, the sound of wood.

In no semblance of order:

Shavo of System of a Down- Killer tone on Toxicity, and pretty decent on the epynonmous.

Ryan Martini of Mudvayne- Well...the Warwick and Ampeg and the GCGCF...whew!

Dustin Williams of Hotboxed- SWR rig and a Ampeg head make thig dudes tone scream THUMP.

Justin Chancellor of Tool- Well. I do.

Mike Dirnt of Green Day- I dig it. It's classic punk.

Stefan Ude of Guano Apes- cool sounds all around, especially on "Crossing the Deadline"

...that's about all I can think of

after reading the BP article on Juan Nelson, I ordered the "Live from Mars" CD. WHOA, it rocks! Ben Harper's style crosses just about every boundry imaginable. I don't think there is a song on that disc that someone wouldn't like.
Ben Harper plays steel guitar, acoustic, and electric guitar. Juan Nelson rocks, just a totally awesome bassist.
I highly recommend picking it up, its a double live CD. "Ground On Down" is one of my favorite tracks, see if you can find a MP3 of it on the web and you'll see. make sure you get the live verson:D

Tony Levin consistently has great tone. Just fantastic. As does Sting, Paul McCartney, and a host of studio masters such as Anthony Jackson.

Richard Bassie Daley of Third World has a great tone that is fantastic on every album.

Gotta love Jaco's fretless tone.

Joe Jackson's bass player Graham Maby has some great tones.

Doug Pinnick. Check out any King's X CD. His live tone is even better. P bass with a pick through overdriven SVT's. And I think he was plugged into a V4B, I don't know if it had a dummy load on it, or what, but that was the first thing his bass went into.

Whatever that small Ampeg looking head was, his tone kicked a$$!

I like bass with some dirt in it. That's why I'll always have soft spot for Jack Bruce. I think Jaco's 8:30 'Black Market' tone is absolutely perfect as is his tone throughout the Birthday Concert CD and Invitation. I've not seen anyone mention John Wetton. He had a great tone during his days with King Crimson.

ok i agree with a coupl of others here, like timmy.c and kill 'em all era cliff burton, but here are a couple of other id like to add:

-timothy b schimtts carvin fretless on the eagles hell freezes over concert

-hugh mcdonald (bon jovi e.g-livin on a prayer, u give luv a bad name)
