are you SURE? i'm a big rage fan and i've got the old official video that came out after the first album, and some old old bootlegs of their first few shows and i never noticed him playing a stingray.... now i have to go watch em again and check!

for great, smooth slap tone i would have to go for alain caron. i love his tone on his cover of donna lee, it's friggin' incredible. for just overall wicked kewl tone i would have to go with michael mannring or matthew garrison. also notible mention to whatever the guy's name who played (a lakland) on brian auger's most recent album.

Great choices! How could I forget Alain Caron (my fav fretless player!!!) and Matt Garrison?!?!

Has anyone listened to the bass sounds on "To Grover With Love"? It's a tribute album to Grover Waashington Jr.

Gerald Albright's tone on "Winelight" is so good - I keep on listening to it over and over.

My other favs have been spoken for:
Jaco, Victor Bailey, Marcus.

I really like Stuart Zender's tone on "Return of the Space Cowboy" too.

timmy uses a fender in the killing in the name clip
anyway...

flea, rhcp - slap tone on aeroplane, punchy tone on suck my kiss.

dirk, incubus - tone on redefine

kb, nonpoint - good natural tone, not too produced

ryan, mudvayne - very growling and attacking, natural sounding also. plus i still say that nearly all of l.d 50 is tuned b-e-a-d-g. At least dig, death blooms, severed, nothing to gein, well, all the main songs are anyway. Trust me, i have the bass score book for the album.

old geddy lee overdriven rick is awesome

i happen to love claypools tone even though most despise it (i even like his fretless tone :eek: )

victor wooten gets an unbelievably clean tone that i will never comprehend but i think thats just because he is sooo damn good :mad:

justin chancellor is the only one to pull of the mid cut with a pick without sounding like everyone else plus he makes a great use of effects

i cant decide whether or not i like dirk lances tone... its good sometimes but the low slap sound on the warwick turns me off big time (New Skin) and sometimes the highs are a bit... too high... yeah...

to grover with love is truely an awesome album. i bought it this summer and practically wore it out i played it so much.
