Who else here uses 12s and 15's?

I'm hesitant to believe that speaker size doesn't matter anymore... why else would every amp company be releasing more and more speaker options?

Speaker size does matter but there other specs that are just as important. I use a JBL E series 18 at practice, a Genz Benz 2x12 on the road, and a homemade 2x10 at home. I've used and preferred nearly every taller cab that was already on stage, Mesa Boogie 2x15, Ampeg 8x10, Peavey 8x10, etc. The only 8x10 I didn't like was a Behringer, but it looked cool the way all the shiny speakers flapped back and forth and somehow didn't put out much sound.

I use a 210 at home, a 212 for most gigs, and a 215 for big stuff. I don't mix any of them,.

I've only owned 12's & 15's for all of my years of playing. 10's never did it for me, although I know many like them, I never did.

I use 2 1x18's and they have pa-lenty of range (my Pandora's drum high-hat sounds just fine through 'em).

However, I am convinced that the Carvin 4x10 Neo cab is The One You Want To Play Through. Funny - everyone that gets one swears it doesn't get more perfect.

It's hard to believe 10's are used for bass amps at all, really. My first guitar amp was a 6x10 (Super Six Reverb), but everyone else had 2x12's (Twin Reverbs). That's how close to magic engineering can be sometimes, I guess...

I got the 18's cuz they were on sale. No reason to change 'em yet.

as you can see by how the discussion has progressed, nobody either cares or wants to be informed. they just want to believe what they believe and not have their beliefs shaken by the truth. suit yourselves, folks. but the only generalizations you can make about driver sizes are centered around beaming. you can't even say that more cone area = greater volume anymore.

I agree with you on what people want to hear and believe, to each their own. But, I do not understand beaming, what is it exactly?

Right now I am playing through a 1212L.. and I am still looking for a light 15.... I passed up one here a while back and I am still kicking myself because all my money/car issues worked out..
I like the 1212L.. it is light weight.. sounds good.. clean.. but it does have decent bottom.. but I have yet to take it out anywhere and really stretch it, which is what I am worried about..

It depends on the cab (brand)..i used a 4x12 aggy ...and hated it...but thats because i used a 5 sring ..with a 4 string it sounded great...imo if you play a five string ..and you want to turn up your rig 10's nor 12's are going to handle my low b dropped to A...ive tried over and over ...when i used my aggy i had to run a 15 with it...i was running a eden wt 500 ...now im so happy with my rig ...its a markbass 2x10 with a bag end 1x15
and a markbass f1...outstanding ...but if you play a 5 you have to have a 15 ....unless you are metallica and playing in front of a wall of 8x10 cabs....I dont think your rig is that weird . markbass is some good stuff ..use what you want to use its your rig

I and every other GS412 owner would disagree with this. The cab has tremendous low-end and faithfully reproduces a Low-B with ease. So I'm really confused right now.

I own a pair of 115 cabs, a 412 cab and a pair of 210 cabs and regularly switch between them. Each setup offers a different tone and accentuates different frequencies. I would be hard pressed to choose only one setup but my Mesa 412 is simply amazing in how good it sounds. The 15's just work to my ears for fretless "mwah" type tone and the 10's have such a great cutting mid growl. Its all about preference. I like them all!

I have only had a couple set ups that could do the earthshaking lows. usually it involves 15's. Though in my current setup I swear I get more bottom from the SWR 2x12 than from the Boogie 1x15. The 15 is all mid!

2 12's and one 15 or 2 12's and one 18 for me. I like the 212 you get in Dr Bass 2460 - the 6" mid adds nicely to the high end. Not so much interested in horns - usually keep them turned off.

I like to use my Little Mark III setup with my 2x10 Traveler cab with an Eden 15 on the bottom I've also used a single 15 with my SVT in a small bar and it sounded great on that gig. Lots of blues for that one

I'm with you on that one. Different setups sound better in different venues.
