Who HAS NOT Gone Ampless?

I have several amps that I use depending on the venue and the type of music I am playing.

With the majority of UK bars being less than 600 sqft, class D and small neo cabs are gaining ground.
There's also the "noise police". Plenty folk are rating the Fender Rumble,new Peavey heads are on my radar

Stuff I'd love to be still using are my Peavey heads + cabs. Just ain't happening these days

I go ampless on my porch all the time. No amp necessary for brushing up on scales.

I've had to do it occasionally. Completely hated it. Just had to hope I was audible to the audience. Felt almost like I was playing air guitar.

Most of the time I play a Mesa/Boogie D-180 into a Sunn 2000S 2x15.

DB only rig:
Acoustic Image Coda combo, sometimes adding an AI Ten2EX cabinet if higher stage volume is required.

Main rig (BG only or BG/DB doubling):
Walter Woods 450W head, Bergantino HT-112 cabinet, sometimes adding a second HT112 if higher stage volume is required. This is seen in my avatar.

Backup rig (former main rig):
AMP BH420 head, EAW VB-125 1-15" cabinet.

I have suggested the idea with the band a few times, but it just aint going to happen.
A loud as heck drummer who refuses to toy with the idea of electronic drums.
Guitarist uses a modeller into a small tube VOX amp.
Singer is open to the idea as the current situation is the stage volume affects his vocal foldback.

I sometimes use IEM's and you lose that connect with the band, but I can live with that.

so...I guess I'm not going to leave this rig at home

Alesis Mididverb III out either a Carvin B2000 with 2 BRX 10.4's for larger gigs (usually still DI out to the board), or Markbass CMDP151 DI out to board. As my bands' sound engineer I like to put everything through the board so it can be controlled better in the mix.

Only for a few seconds. My old faithful Peavey decided to shut off during a performance. Tough to play just through the house stuff when you are fretless and trying to sing in key. New on/off switch fixed the problem. A pair of TNT130's. Bottom one has a killer Eminence woofer, no brights, but lets the pair go BOOM. Also have a Fender BXR300C, but that one is at the practice shed

Nice rig.

When I was doing vocals in a previous band, I found that simply wearing ear plugs actually pretty much eliminated the need to hear vocals in monitors.

No disrespect intended to those who do go ampless, but I never have and never will. I use an SVT and 8X10 cabinet and that's what I like to hear when I play.

In response to a recently created thread, I am asking those who have NOT gone ampless, and the amps/cabs that you are using.

I am currently using a Fender Rumble 40 Watt combo that has built in overdrive functionalities, 5 band Equalization, and various buttons that cut or reduce treble/bass. I find it to be a joy to play through.

Mesa D-800 and 2 Epifany 1x15 cabs. Also have a Rumble 40.

Will never "go ampless"

If your playing bass as a living and doing the hustle from gig to gig, be it as duo at a restaurant early in the night to a bar show followed by a late night jazz trio in a hotel foyer then yes, you have gone without an amp. Happily so in most circumstances for the ease of movement between gigs. Sometimes public transport is the only way this can happen.
Love love love using my own amp when possible but these days I use it less and less. PA systems at venues here have improved and I find just plugging in either my VT or Tone hammer gets the job done

Tried the ampless thing once but now I always haul around an Orange 212 cab with either an Orange TB500 head or a Mesa Subway D-800. I just end up using the cab as a monitor back behind me at a fairly low volume level.

I tried ampless for one gig, going bass>BDDI>PA>in ears. I missed the "whump" the amp gives. I still use my amp but I try to keep it pretty low and let the PA and in ears do the work.
