I have not found a gig that my Markbass 210 tilt back combo hasn't been perfect for. I have a 210 extension cab, but seldom use it.

Note however, that my bass also goes through the PA And I use in-ears. My own amp is more a monitor for the band and me.

The TH-500 with the Berg is great and so is the GB Shuttle 6.2 and the Accugroove.

I'm still 'amped' with the rig below: Ampeg v-4B on top of 2 of the 112AV cabs.

I would be fine going cab-less, but the cost of entry is prohibitive, given my degree of need. I'm not a huge fan of sims and in order to get all the tubey goodness from the Ampeg, I'd need a load box/attenuator type thing and those get pricey. I have a PF500 for tiny stages/small venues, but this is the rig I use if even remotely practical. It doubles as my stands for 2 basses and my is also my pedal board platform.

If there's gonna audible be bass coming out of a monitor, I think I'd rather have that monitor be my amp. To go IEM, everyone else would need to go IEM and not everyone is looking to plunk down major $$ on wireless IEM systems. I'm pretty sold on wireless for bass, so suddenly having an IEM cable as a tail is not remotely appealing.

I haven't too many shows but enough to have been asked if I want to go ampless. I said hell no! I like being able to feel my cab behind me. This isn't a live example but the guitarist of the band I used to be in never wanted to use my amp to record, he always wanted to DI my bass into the interface. I understand if he didn't want to mic my amp, but at least DI the amp. I think he just didn't want my bass to sound better than his guitar

I use an Ampeg SVT350 amp with an Ampeg SVT 410 HLF cab. I have an old Peavey MAX112 that blew and I'm trying to fix because not every show is going to need my entire ampeg rig. And because RickyWoo said he goes ampless on the porch, I thought I'd share this picture I took a few years ago:

Needless to say the neighbors weren't too thrilled, and neither was my father when I woke him up from a summer nap!

I went ampless once in a rehearsal when my amp fried a resistor and stopped making noise. That was it. It was an odd experience at best.

Dude, how is the M6/M9 atop the two PH212's? I had a M6 Carbine Combo and that rig sounded sick. Some day I'd like a MAS something-or-other cab under a 400/400+, but I know the Carbines are equally awesome and the Powerhouse 12's are as well.

It's the living definition of "wall of sound". I know there isn't a valid correlation between a particular tone and certain speaker sizes, but most of the manufacturers seem to be voicing their 12" loaded cabs in a way that really sounds perfect to me, especially Mesa.

The PH212 on its own is usually enough for anything indoors, but for those huge outdoor venues the two together are simply excellent. For me its 412 heaven with 212 convenience, flexibility and easy handling.

I have gone ampless, but only twice in my life and I wasn't too psyched about it.

In general I use amps. Small rig: Eden WTX-260 or MarkBass LMIII into a Hartke HyDrive 112.

Big rig: Genz Benz SM 9.2 or Streamliner 900 into either a Genz Benz UB212T or, when it's working, a 15/6 Fearful.

SansAmp RPM into QSC 1802 into Avatar 4x10 and/or Mesa Boogie 4x10. Or a Markbass CMD 151P for the upright.

A long time ago I played in a church that had 220 current in a 110 outlet... I ended up playing ampless (and being really frustrated that night).

Other than that, I've always had an amp. Even a cheap amp is 100% better than no amp.

I need a 370 for my 301. Otherwise I've got an Ashdown 410 and a head. I'd like a b-15 down the road but may settle for the PF-50 or PF-20 depending on how adventurous I feel. The PFs and the Ashdown can work without a cab and have DI so I'm always prepared.

Here's my rack. Plenty of power and because the crown is like 8 or 9 lbs this rack is actually not bad at all to carry with the shoulder strap on the rack bag. I play ampeg cabs but swap all the speakers for more modern speakers with bigger frequency response. Most shows I just bring my 800w 4x10.

Did it ONCE. When my amp died (it didn't. ..my speaker lead was cactus & didn't have time to troubleshoot).
Hated it.

Absolutely wunnerfull!!!

I have these cabs as well. they are "Wunnerful" so light & easy to travel with. My Hughes & Kettner 600 base bass head is heavier.
