I've only heard Tor's Illinoize mashups, and they are very good. I've been meaning to check out his actual stuff.
Me. I have all of his albums except the rabbit one (for some reason? i should go pick that up) and I even have a few on vinyl. Big fan. The man is crazy. I think Illinois is probably my favorite, Night Zombies is great. The Avalanche is a good continuation of Illinois too, the guitar solo in Springfield is very well done. Very jarring, it's perfect.
I saw him on Austin city limits. WOW!!!
But, it does dissapoint me that he bragged that he was so prolific that he would write one album for each state. As far as I know Michigan and Illinois are the only states done so far. Too many claims made that never get backed up in our world anymore. Too much talk and not enough action. He is in his early or mid 30's, so I guess he has plenty of time.

Yes, the man is crazy. And he does seem like he's a bit of an a$$, but as long as he keeps cranking out albums like Michigan, The BQE, and Illinois of course, who cares?
He tends to be overly sentimental, and his songwriting is fairly predictable (ie chord resolultions, etc). His lyrics swing from the profound to the immature, sometimes within the same song lol. This coming from a fan.. I even enjoy the Seven Swans record with its strong Christian vibe. I love his orchestration.. and it all sounds awesome on vinyl.
I saw him on ACL. It was....different. Just not my cup'o'tea, I guess. He had a cutie playing keys for him, so that gets him points.
