Who is your bass Idol?

Gene $immons- first and foremost. He's the first rock star that inspired me to pick the instrument up.
Bob Daisley-His work with Ozzy? Enough said.....
Mike Watt-fireHose.
John Taylor-What can I say? He's one of the few modern bassists that still plays 70's disco bass lines.

I wouldn't say idols as much as I would say influences....fortunately for me,3 of my top 5 are from my hometown(Memphis) and I got a chance to know them all! One of which,we lost recently Donald "Duck" Dunn! RIP!
My main influences are:
1.Anthony Jackson
2.Jimmy Kinard(my 1st influence and good friend)
3.Leroy Hodges(played bass on ALL of Al Green's records and a great friend!)
4.Marcus Miller(my EBS family and good friend!)
5.Joel Smith(just as good on drums too)
With the exception of numbers 1,3,& 4.Lookup the other 2 and you'll hear exactly why they're on my list!
I added a pic of Duck Dunn playing MY bass while sitting in on my gig a few years ago at BB King's in Memphis! he cussed me out for making him play my 5 string
but,he did a great job considering he never plays 5! I told him I didn't know he was coming! haha! RIP buddy!!

A few:
Cliff Burton (Metallica): Made me realize bass could be its own instrument, and not just a bottom for the guitars. Also, dat distortion.
Geddy Lee (Rush): To me, epitomizes the melodic, hard-hitting style of bass I want to play, and had my favorite tone with his Rickenbacker and Wal. Also, his use of keyboards and his voice, which is similar to though better than mine.
Chris Squire (Yes): Even more epitomizes the melodic bass-style I want. Also showed me playing with a pick can be not only acceptable, but advantageous over fingers for reasons others than speed. Also for his effects use.
John Myung (Dream Theater): Has turned me on to the idea of extended-range basses, though I still wouldn't use one until I'm proficient on 4-string. Also is amazingly technically, and is a sort of synthesis of the above three (he's cited them as influences).

I'm with you on this (at least with Gene, Daisley and Taylor). They're all underrated IMO. Daisley's playing with Ozzy is practically a master class in "how to play hard rock bass". John Taylor has great groove, and he's darn creative. As for Gene - listen to Kiss Alive I and II - his bass lines on those albums support the songs beautifully, and his mid-rangey tone sits in the mix perfectly.
Others that are melodic and support the songs: Jamerson, Babbitt, Rainey, McCartney, John McVie, Carl Radle (Clapton), Randy Meisner (Eagles), Mike Mills (REM)
And don't forget Tom Sholz!!!
