Who likes the relic look?

I personally love the worn-in relic look of basses. Like the Bass of Doom. Or Fender custom shop heavy relic basses. But that's just me.

I love them. I used be like "meh", and then I bought one because it had everything else I wanted in a four string. I think at this point I prefer it in a lot of cases, depending of course on the bass itself and the overall aesthetic.

A crappy relic job is no better than a crappy gloss finish or whatever.

Good luck getting a brand new bass down to a well worn aged look. Especially if it has a thick poly coating like most basses have these days . Probably won't happen in your lifetime unless you abuse the crap out of the instrument.

True, but did you want the wear? I would posit that there is a conceptual difference between intentionally buying a pre-worn bass (be it new or used) because you want it to look worn, vs. buying a used bass because you want to save money / buy something no longer in production / etc.
