Who likes the relic look?

I agree a relic is just another type of finish; however, not all relics are created equal. Kinda like not all rattle can finishes are done with the same level of skill.

Love the feel of a worn in bass. The fact it irritates the finish police is an added bonus.

I prefer a bass that has what I call "honest play-wear"; it has earned its scars. Artificially induced, I'll pass. But I also have a distinct non-preference for basses that look brand-spankin' new. This is fairly recent, and I have no idea how it came about.

I like them, I have a Roadworn Jazz and I had 2 of the P basses fiesta red and burst, I'm very careful with my basses and I really doubt they will get any major blemishes, so it would take 100 years to get any so called mojo, My lakland Skyline D Dunn came to me in mint condition a few years ago, it's my main player and it's still mint, so is my G&L Tribute LB100, I like my Roadworn Jazz and my Nate Mendel even if its reliced at the factory..to each his own...

stone/acid wash jeans were popular for a while too, I think I have picture somewhere of me playing my naturally-aged P-bass while wearing a pair.

Always been of 2 minds on it. Like I definitely do respect the attention to detail, but it's a bit like seeing someone pre-thrash their board to appear skated, which always leaves a bad taste.

To each their own though. Everybody chooses basses based partially on appearances. Basses are made of wood - is painting them red inauthentic? So I get what people dig about it, though I get what they don't a little more.

Buddy of mine got a Bluesman jazz. Wow it plays great. While I wouldn't seek that type of finish out, it wouldn't bother me having one as long as the bass played and sounded great.

Don't care one way of the other about actual used instruments. Would I ever buy one made to look like a "relic" from the factory? Absolutely not. Just my opinion, but name one other thing you'd buy in life "new" that looks like it had been beaten to hell and not cared for...

I don't and won't understand the relic thing.

I'm a fan of the "relic" look when it happens over the course of ownership through wear and tear. Has anyone paid extra for a pre-wrecked car?

I like the closet clean barely relic'd relics. Just enough "aging" to avoid "first day of school new sneakers" look. No bare spots or serious dings, but maybe some slight checking and slightly dulled hardware and plastic bits.
