Who owns a 15" and why do you use em?

I grew up playing 15's.

These were my first three amps.

Acoustic 220 with 1x15 cab.
Ampeg B-15N
Ampeg V4 / 2x15 cab.

It is the reference point to what a cab should sound like too me.

I also like 10" speakers.
But 15's are home.

I bought a new Ampeg 1x15 combo a couple weeks ago. For roughly the same price, I could have got either 1x15 or 2x10. I went back and forth for awhile, and finally decided the 15 sounded better, and reacted better to my playing.

Luckily, I still liked it when I got home. In the store, everything had roundwounds, and I'm a flatwound guy!

I have a Yorkville B400 Bass Master 400 watt 1x15 combo that is one the the best sounding combos I have ever palyed through. It's Trace Elliot, Eden, and a little growly Ampeg all in one box, and it feels like it too. 80lb 1x15 combo. I have an Avatar 212 4ohm I run instead if I need more volume with the head since it is removable.

I was never a 15" fan until I played the MarkBass Jeff Berlin combo. I can't explain it.. maybe my ears changed over the past 18 years. Anyway, I bought it and the 115HR. I love how much "air" this rig actually moves.. I don't see myself going back to 10's for awhile.

Another bergantino ht115 user here, I just actually picked it up off another TB member. It's great, loud, adjustable tweeter, etc... If I ever need more, I would consider a pairing it with a 2x10, 1x12, or maybe even another 15....There's just something about a 15" woofer that you just don't have with 10"s or what not...that old schoolness perhaps...

I have a variety of Eden cabls and although i usually use either a 410 or pair of 210's, I really like using one of the 210 cabs on top of my old Eden 115. Its only a 200watt cab with no horn and doesn't go very deep, but it has such a warm character and its a frickin loud cab as well. Paired with a 210, its hard to go wrong.

My Eden 115 is also by far my lightest weight cab. I always keep my eyes open for another as i think a pair would make a fantastic "old school" setup.

It's alright.....Anyone who owns a nitrobass or firebass can explain the sound of the amp. I run my all of my pedals (boss odb-3, EH Nano Muff, MXR phase 90, dod fx 65) into one amp which powers the two 15s. The other amp takes one of the outputs of the fx 65 (first in the pedal chain) and powers the 2x10. The 2x10 stays clean (except a chorus effect). I can use the whole thing or any combination of amp and cab depending on the room size. It works for me

For the old school sound, I don't want to "cut" through the mix, I want to fill the bottom end with full, clear, clean and smooth tones. Just right so that if I stopped playing, the sound of the band would fall apart.

I love the low end of a 15" and the way they round out the highs on my jazz. Over the years I found I could make a single 15" cab work in a band, never could get a single 12" cab or a single 2-10" cab to "do-it" for me live.
My down side of a 15" is the transit speed. I've now went to a 2-12" cab. Lows near a 15"....speed near 10's.
A question for everyone, does any manufacturer make a 15" cab that has fast transits near what 10's have?

I always like 4x10" cabs for in metal music.
Punchy, articulated attack, interesting low-end, can handle overdrive/distortion very well.

But now I'm starting a jazz band, and learning how to play jazz.
Now I'm gonna need a proper amp for that in the near future, and someone adviced that a something with a single 15" is the perfect thing.

I always want the ideal gear for the job.

So, does anyone have suggestions?
Is a single 15" ideal for jazz.

Also: what band?

I already favor Ashdown, and most say they give the warmest sound.
