Oooh, that's me. I have nothing against pedals/fx, and in fact I envy those who use them well, but my rig is K.I.S.S.
My favorite rig would be an early 70's SVT, but it's too big and heavy for me these days, so I use rack rigs that get me very close. They are significantly lighter and somewhat smaller than the SVT, and the advantage is that I can get the same level of tube overdrive at any volume. Anyway, here's the rundown...
Cabinet: Bergantino NV610. It's as good or better than any SVT cab I've heard.
Power amp: Stewart World 2.1, ~600w/channel into 4 ohms, around 2000w bridged into 4 ohms, weighs just 17 pounds. It's out of production, but any power amp with similar specs should do.
Tube/tube emulating preamps - I use one of the following at a time:
- Reiner Amplification (12ax version)
- SWR Interstellar Overdrive
- Ampeg SVP-Pro (USA)
- SansAmp RBI + SansAmp RPM wired in parallel
77 P or an Stingray Classic 4 strain into a Glock Heartrock and Glock Quattro. Heavenly. I will sometimes use an EBS Multicomp with the P tho, it can get peaky.
61 P bass with chromes straight into my GK 400 RB with rack tuner and out my Avatar 4 10 cab,or my Bass straight into my GK MB112 II combo and MB112 II powered cab with a snark tuner on the bass...
Either a Fender P or J into either a Fender Rumble 150 or 350. Great sound and tone with minimal hassle!
Meh--I'd bet 99% of bassists worldwide don't even have a tuner in line, just bass and amp. You're probably thinking it's not that way just because the tech-heads and gear-heads on TB (like me) make such a production of all the gear. People don't use so many gadgets in "the real world".

Fender Bass plugged straight into GK amp.
I have lots of pedals, dozens if not a hundred. For bass, several distortions and fuzzes, chorus, flange, phase shift, envelope filters, octave boxes (up and down), harmonizers, reverbs, delays, compression and limiting.
I used to use some with my GK1001RB, trying to get the sound I wanted. That amp died and I got a PF-500.
No more pedals. Just my Variax 5 into the PF-500, with a couple cabinets I built...a 12/6/1 and 12 sub (not fEARful...all ceramic speakers and EV TL cabinets). The amp is as much an instrument as the bass. I love that amp.

800RB into Epifani UL310 or SWR Golight 410. I very rarely, but occasionally use an octave pedal.
I'm from the old school of players. In my rack, I have my Eden WT800, Korg r/mount tuner, and, my Ashley Compressor.
As for pedals, I use my trusty T.C. Electronics Chorus Pedal. I also have my really old Sadowsky clip-on preamp, that I use in conjunction with my passive basses.
I've never been much of an effects guy. Why? I blame it on the ART Nightbass Multi-Effects unit I had when it first came out. Man, that thing was awful. Looking back, I'm sure it might have done some good things, but, I never was able to milk anything out of it. Which was partially my fault, due to not having the patience to mess with it enough.

Last couple six months of gigs I have been using my new Aggie TH-350 and just the Jazz bass... amazing. very happy with that setup...
last two gigs I've used a Zoom 60B (comp 160) as an inline compressor into the TH-350 into the cab as the 60B is the new toy and really enjoying the combination.
GAS got the better of me with the Genz heads going on sale so now I'm working a shuttle 9.2 onto the scene

Lakland DJ4 (John East pre-amp) plugged straight into GK 800RB, releasing the sound out of 1x15 Mesa Boogie and 2x10 Hartke Transporter
(Primarily) a Fender American Standard Precision --> Korg Pitchblack Tuner --> Ampeg SVT 5 Pro --> 410 Cabinet.
The 5 Pro has a blend-able drive channel, and I can get everything I need nice and easily.

Live I play a Bossa OB-5 into an SVT AV and two 4X10 Genz Benz cabinets. Playing at home, all bets are off and I like to play with my 30+ pedals.
