Picky! You seem to be the only one who takes issue, it's all over the internet and bass playing lore that Tom invented the 12 string bass. Whatever you call it, it was his idea first and he had the first one.

34" is long scale. Yes, there are 35" scale basses which are usually 5 string basses tuned BEADG they are not 'coursed' string instruments.
There are also 10 string coursed basses like the Dean Edge Hammer which is like playing a 5 string.
There is also a 12 string by Warwick that has double courses of strings instead of triple courses of strings and plays like a 6 string bass BEADGC

I think your question is more suited to basses over six strings that are not coursed. Then you're getting into something much more difficult to play/learn and afford.

Again, I think your question is more applicable to non coursed stringed basses like this 12 string played by Scot Fernandez who calls his bass 'Sophia'
To me this is boutique and he is a gifted musician.

My personal favorite to ever wield one would be dUg Pinnick. He's been using them since at least '90. Saw King's X on the Faith Hope Love tour, & his tone melted my face!

Different body than the Dean Rhapsody? Is this the same 3 course string or just double course?
The Dean Rhapsody has triple course strings and it's 12 strings...I guess that's what makes it unlike any other bass out there? ESP has an 8 string double course as well so does Hagstrom.

3 course stringing on both. The top picture is without doubt, his Hamer. The bottom picture is a Yamaha. Do yourself a favor; don't listen to this without headphones, or unless you have access to a great big system!
